Yes Sal - and I'm not sure I have many tops that would work with skirts - that are casual anyway. Lots do my jeans do fall down a little, perhaps because I never to the alteration Krish mentioned!
Karie - it's winter here, and I do wonder if cropped jeans would be warm enough (I think any jeans are too hot for summer)

I probably unconsciously wear them less, but I don't think I think baggy knees count on jeans...

When my jeans start bagging at the knees, I turn them in to shorts.
I like straight cropped jeans and wear them all spring, summer, and fall.

I think there comes a point when jeans are past it - mine tend to sag at the butt first. But when they need pulling up constantly it is time for them to go in my mind.

I think you can tweak the jeans to make them work for you. Buy boyfriend jeans a size smaller, or skinnies a size larger, crop jeans or alter them.

I have not yet bought cropped jeans because my money has been diverted into other areas. I think maybe tops that work with skirts will work best with cropped jeans?

Hi krish, yes I've never had jeans altered - but I probably should.
Lyn - yes, all jeans that wear out at the knee would get turned into shorts if there is still wear in the rest of them (happens with my kids often)
Just getting back about buying more expensive ones - I could. I have spent hardly any of my clothing budget this year so far. I guess buying expensive jeans raises the stakes - you know as in - it better work out! I'm also concerned that if I do go into cropped pants I'll need other tops, that I don't currently have.

Hi Anne,
I would hack them into shorts if the knees were bagged out.
I know it can be hard to find jeans that fit off the rack for pears so I tend to want to hold onto them if they fit well at the waist and hips!

I have had most of my current jeans altered at the waist and discovered it solved their various fitting issues. Some denim were strechier than others, yet the solution of having them fit at the waist works for every pair: not only does it eliminate the gape in the back, but it lifts the leg and sides ever so slightly, repositioning it where everything should fall. Maybe this could be a solution for you. But wearing at the inner leg seam is definitively a sign that the fabric is of low quality.

Thanks everyone.
Yes the ones in question have a stretch component and came from a fast fashion shop (Jay Jays)that I'm trying not to buy from. But they are 2 years old and have had HEAPS of wears (probably 2-3 times a week for 21/2 winters) and since they were so comfortable I wore them to bed sometimes. And they are wearing in other spots too, like the inner leg seams.
I'll definitely keep them for lounge wear, but am thinking they might not be the best for casual Fri at work which has a more smart casual vibe.
Thank for the recommendations of shops to look at. My looking has been confined to my local Westfield mall and one call out here on YLF.
La Ped - thanks for the thoughts about jeans! (my Mum has a similar leg build to you I think- I didn't inherit that)

I've only had the bagging happen with blended-fabric denim, eg, cotton + poly + spandex. I avoid jeans with polyester in them now, and try not to buy anything with more than 2% spandex. I know with some of the other stretch materials, like polyurethane and elastomultiester, that 2% guideline may not hold true, but I haven't had any first hand experience with those. I opt for 100% cotton pants whenever possible. And stretch fabrics I always wash cold and line dry.

Also, I have the opposite fit issue -- I have large calves relative to my hip/waist, so many "straight" jeans end up looking skinny on me. So yes, I think trying cropped skinnies as your version of cropped straights may work in some cases.

I don't have the problem of jeans bagging at the knees, however if I did and they annoyed me I would probably donate them to an op shop.

I rarely have problems with sagging knees in my jeans. I tend to look for jeans that don't have a lot of stretch in them (personal preference) and I prefer BF or straight leg fits over skinnies. When I have had jeans that bagged out I culled them.
Skinnies seem to be very popular but I do see other styles on more fashion forward women. I would call them cropped looser straight leg jeans. Sometimes the jeans are embroidered or have patches.

There are so many cropped straight jeans around in Australia Anne. I've bought some from Australian labels Camille and Marc and also from Morrison. David Jones has a great jeans section with all manner of styles where I have bought J Brand and Paige crops. They currently have EOFY sales on. Buying premium denim eliminates sagging issues imo. I don't buy fast fashion but I'm sure you would find straight crops in those fashion shops if you are on a budget.

I would tend to cull my jeans when they start bagging at the knees. I wash jeans a lot because I like the shape they have at the start of the day, but not so much at the end. Also, I don't buy particularly pricey ones. I don't tumble dry jeans as I have heard that makes them go baggier quicker.

I really like skinny jeans, as I think the fit is somehow more modern and suits me better.

1) Do you cull or demote your jeans once they start bagging at the knees?

2) Because of fit issues, most of my skinnies end up being relaxed skinnies. Since straight cropped jeans aren't around much here, I've been wondering about buying skinny ones. As I have a much larger thigh girth than calves, they might effectively be "straight" ?

Thoughts?
