As an apple I definitely understand your issue with jeans that won't stay put. With skinny jeans I usually size up one size so that I don't have an uncomfortable fit at the waist. I also usually wear a long cotton tank tucked into my jeans so that there's some friction to prevent slide. There's also a belt involved of course. Stretch is nice but yep slide is a problem. I have the same issue with leggings.

Have you tried Lane Bryant? I no longer fit misses 14's because I have a tummy but the 14W's fit well because they are made with tummy room and are higher waisted.

I just got NYDJ red jeans at Ross for under $25! I have to decide whether I will hem them myself or pay to have the hem look better. But NYDJ also works for pear types with fat legs. Same with Jag if they have the zipper (i.e. not the pull-on kind). Go figure. Or maybe, like an apple, I don't have much booty?

Note: NYDJ is very much vanity sized and many have a tendency to stretch out (so I need to wear those Ross jeans around a bit before the return date!). I normally wear a P4 in jeans or P2 in dress pants and skirts but start with size 0 in NYDJ.

Mochi, I got my NYDJ at 6pm with a deep discount, about $60 because they were from "the previous" year. That's ok, I am from the last century. LOL !

I forget which mag just did a jeans review and Old Navy got really high marks.

Thanks for all the recs, ladies. I had forgotten to mention that I'm not a cheapskate with everything, but with jeans I don't want to throw away much money because of my thighs that rub together and wear out the insides of the jeans relatively quickly. So AE would be very attractive to me in that respect. But I'll try on the others at the very least for curiosity's sake.

I am a strong apple and all my jeans are from AE. AE really works for me and makes my legs look tons better than they are. However, AE jeans are VERY low rise and I need a belt for every one of mine except my tight skinnies. If you don't mind that, I say go for it. AE also has a great return policy.

Isabel beat me to Jag and NYDJ. I usually suggest the NYDJ legging jeans for apples, because you get a larger, stretchy waist that comes up high and girdles without making the legs and rear big and baggy.

I guess the same principles apply to other jeans, too. More of the premium denims are making high rises now, like Paige and I want to say J Brand. Those legs will run even slimmer than NYDJ leggings.

Hi there Mochi !!

I LOVE Kut From Kloth, Jag jeans and NYDJ ( all suggested by Angie ). That and I always have my jeans tailored. ALWAYS. I know, nuts, but I do. I just have to have the waist taken in. Often, I like going up a size, then fit the waist. Luckily, I have a fantastic seamstress that does it for free, my mom. But if you get them at Nordstrom, they will do it too. Remember, you are a unique individual and no one makes jeans just for you. So make your jeans just yours by having them fitted. :-)

Are you looking for a lower rise Mochi? My AE's (and I own a lot of them in jeans/shorts) are about 7.5 inch rise and that's about 3 fingers down from my belly button. They are usually a little loose to me in the waist because I have slightly larger hip to waist ratio and I prefer a loose fit overall so I tend to size up to my larger size. I could fit in an 8 but prefer to wear a 10.

If they fit they are a true bargain IMO and I really enjoy them. I also like Levi's demi-curve straight jeans.

Thanks, both! Glory, as Suz would say, you give me bon courage to try them out. I realize 99.9% of females strike out with jeans--I am just starting to get PPP about them at the same time as I'm wanting to branch out from skinnies. I will give a few pair a try.

I have the AE jeans in the blog today. I have strong apple tendencies. I also like a mid rise for the girdling. I am 5.4
I have the straight leg in the regular length because the short are just touching the floor without any shoes and I was afraid they would shrink a bit and I hate short jeans.
I found these ones to be the best fit in a long time for me as the rise is a bit higher - like the Gap long and leans (which I have in white and love).
As for sizing - they are pretty forgiving.
I think you should give them a try in your regular pant size and one down.

So you have met me... I think I am an apple fit in jeans. Waist and hips similar, not much booty, etc. I find a mid rise to be girdling and not slide down as much - so the old Gap leans and the Joe's Provocateur in petite both work really well for me. I prefer a little tighter in the waist because sizing down will never result in a too tight fit on my non-existent derrière but will contain my midsection. And with a higher rise there is less chance of muffin top.

I want to get the straight-leg AE jeans in today's blog post. Or something similar. People here (some of them, anyway) think my jeans fit really well but that is an illusion--I need to keep them severely belted if they're low-rise, as skinnies always seem to be, or else they'll inch downward and with no hips to keep them up--disaster! They just don't fit right in the whole torso area. Anyway I don't know how to avoid crazy fit issues. (Stretchy jeans like skinnies mitigate this to a degree, and perpetuate the illusion.) According to the AE sizing chart, I should be an XXL by my waist measurement, but my hips would make me an L. I have no idea what to do. Oh, just wear a skirt. Or elasticized sweatpants. All right, then. Ideas? Thanks!
