Wow, Angie&Helena thanx for answering my question-hope it didn't sound insensible asking-pls. believe me that really wasn't my aim at all. Truth to be told, I have my own fit issues with tees but I wear them mostly to layer(or for very casual)- so I only pay attention to fit on the body (clingy vs tailored), length (I always need longer on torso) and like a wider or V neck. This doesn't sound too complicated but still very hard to find---not to speak about the sleeves and now... corelating them to the fit on the torso, OMG...

there is still so much to learn...Thanx again for slicing it up for me.

At a glance the last pair first struck me as a little RATE (‘rough around the edges’) for your style, between the slight fading and the raw hem. So I thought maybe that’s why you don’t love them. But the suede heeled boots do dress them up! You mentioned getting long black jeans as a dressier option - I just wanted to caution that in my experience black jeans fade quickly, and thus can lose their dressy edge. A different fabric blend might hold its colour better. Dark wash denim stays dressier longer for me but, isn’t really trending right now is it?

Agreeing the slim straights look the least current, but they're useful in winter under tall boots.
I'd like to see you in darker, full length wider jeans- a bootcut, flare, or trouser style too!

:D Just about all of those are more on-trend than my jeans/pants. I liked them all and would keep them all. Especially anything in a slimmer line--that will always be elegant, as long as it's not a skin-tight skinny. The only thing I agreed with you is that you said the one blue jean wash was a little blah. It looked great for everyday, but not interesting enough for going out, etc. Still, I'd keep them all. If I were going to add a pair, it might be along the lines of a full-length boot cut or flare.

Dee, thanks for being gracious! In the same breath, I'll reiterate that that's what I see. It's just my opinion on proportions, which people are free to take or leave. It's all good! People see different things because flattery lies in the eye of the beholder. Opinions differ greatly because style is very subjective

FWIW, if you were shopping for a fitted tee with me, Helena, and you were interested in my opinion, we'd be trying silhouettes like these to see which looks best (ignore the patterns and colours).

We'd go higher or lower in the neckline. Less round and mid-way, IYKWIM. And longer or shorter on the sleeves. A little wider in the sleeves if they are at the length you have them now. You'd decide which you liked best

I'm late here but I have to say that they all look great on you! You are a jeans person I could see the slimmer ones as good for running errands with a sweatshirt or sweater while the wider ones look a little more stylish for when you want to up your game. Sounds like you have a good plan for going forward.

Lyn, I don't have the answer yet but will be experimenting with t-shirts next (I'm not tooooo bad with sweaters now but it's still a work in progress). Fit details are always the thing I struggle to judge!

With this t and other fitted pieces, part of the issue for me *I think* is my slight IT tendency ... So the shoulder seams can be a bit too narrow and then I have more cling than drape. And because I also have a wide waist, this means it emphasizes my rectangular shape in a way that I don't like. The neckline I'm not sure though ...

Anyone who sees this by all means correct me

To my eyes all of these look good:-) but I came to this thread to educate myself and was just wondering on the Angie's comment:
"FWIW, I think the slim-fit tee is the problem - not the jeans! It's not the best shape. Neckline and sleeves look off."

So, how would be a neckline and sleeves of a tee the right way? I very very seldom wear jeans-but sometimes wearing a tee, that's why I ask here....:-)

So Angie or somebody who understands what she meant can you pls. explain more in detail? Thanx for the effort.

You are all sorted but I will add my two cents anyway . My favorites for you are the pair in 8-11. But they all look good and I would not get rid of any of them - as you say, put the first pair away until the tides turn and enjoy the more wide legs while they are particularly on trend. I like the black pair fwiw. You look fab in all of them.

I love all the jeans on you but agree with Angie that the fitted top is not the best cut on you! And that is messing up your judgement of the wide legs in particular.

I think you are sorted for decisions. If you like a black jean for "dressy" I would personally look for a full length wide leg and wear with a bit of a heel -- that will feel elegant! But in your climate (with slush/ snow) it might not be super practical, which is a wrinkle. That would apply to flares, too, though, so not sure on that point, alas.

I like all of the jeans on you, Helena. My favorites are the straight legs, and I think they go well with all the top and footwear combos.

My favorite top on you is the fluid fit shirt, semi-tucked. To me, it looks good with all the footwear and jeans choices.

I love the tee on you, too, with the flat slip-ons, with all of the jeans you tried with that combo.

I like the oversized top best with the flat, more casual footwear, regardless of which jeans you put it with.

I can't recall if you have stompy boots, but if so, that could be something to try with the different jeans styles, too.

I think the last pair of jeans looks great on you, but if you're not wearing them, then you don't need to keep them! If you like the white ones in the same style, it could be that black jeans aren't your thing. Or maybe that particular wash of black denim.

- tuck the slim jeans away for now

my 2 cents:

Slim Straights - I vote keep in a holding zone, or pass on.

Wider straight legs - good!

Wide slightly cropped.- good!

Wide slightly cropped - good!

FWIW, I think the slim-fit tee is the problem - not the jeans! It's not the best shape. Neckline and sleeves look off.

Photos 5, #12 and #15 look best proportionally. Absolutely fabulous! It's THAT KILLER SHIRT, that makes the bottoms look even better :)

Thank you so much everyone for all the amazing input! I've taken copious notes!

Re: the black jeans, point well taken that a black shirt is not the best match ... I think the waist just seems to hit at the wrong spot so I don't love the idea of something contasting it either though. I think these are donate ... to Lisa's suggestion, I will keep an eye out for full length black flares, since I would see black jeans as a 'dressy' option (I live in the 'burbs so jeans are as dressy as I need 99% of the time - Joyce to your excellent suggestion about dressier blouses, sadly I don't have much need!)

Re: the slim straights - I agree with the comments that these are worth tucking away until the fashion gods decide we are doing slimmer legs again There will be days when they are just the thing ... and these are my favourite option with the oversized top.

Lots of positivity for the straight ankle-length darker pants! Sarah's point is well taken that they are not going to win any fashion awards but they are a good classic option. I may seek a similar cut in a different wash. (interesting point CG about the lighter vs. darker washes).

Great thoughts around the wider straight ones. These are the ones I struggle to style a little bit for whatever reason, but when I get it right-to-my-eye I do really like them.

Mixed thoughts on the wide legs and I get it. They were a wild card and tricky to style as they are so voluminous and I am not very tall. Defo think they benefit from the heel.

For my part I almost wonder if my struggle is more with tops than with jeans! I crave the neatness of fitted items, esp with looser bottoms - but I want to the waist surrender of looser ones. I like the fit of the black blouse in particular but am enjoying oversized tops as well *once there is some structure somewhere* such a a cuffed sleeve, a semi-tuck, or a structured bottom to provide balance. BUT I have a lot of t-shirts and things which hug the waistline and I am not feeling them at all except for under a loose shirt - except weirdly I've been wearing fitting tanks and shorts all summer and that seems fine?? Idk what that's about lol ... or why it's so hard for me to figure out how to find items with a good fluid fit?!? *sigh*

Anyways, I really appreciate all the feedback - lots to keep in mind as we move into jeans season and as I browse the stores ...

You look good in everything you post, and you have the kind of shape that wears all jeans well, so I would really have to say that you’d be best served by going with feel — how do each of these *feel* to you when worn with your favorite tops and footwear? They’re all to my eye a good balance between current and classic, it just depends on how you like to style them.

I like the wide straight legs with the tucked blouse — not so much with the roomy untucked tops. This tracks with how I prefer to wear wide legs too — they need a bit of structure and shape on top.

I love these types of posts!

I like all the jeans on you.

Slim straight - I like these and would keep - great with sneakers. I would wear as a Mum on the go look.

Straight - fab in every way. Prefer with sneakers than heels.

Straight - pair 3 - fab especially with the tucked tops. I like both pairs of shoes.

Wide leg crops - fab but do prefer the heel. I think sandals could work too but the sneakers aren’t as good.

Black - I like these but would prefer some lightness in the look - maybe light sneakers or boots or a lighter top.

You look wonderful in them all. I don’t know if it’s helpful.

As a long time lover of cropped flares , I’ll warn you they aren’t leg lengthening by any stretch , if that matters to you . I just don’t care about that so I wear them all the time .

A bootcut or mini flare worn long with a tucked in blouse would be gorgoues on you - especially with a bit of a heel . Just saying .

My least favourite for you are the raw hemmed wide crops . I can’t quite articulate why but maybe they aren’t polished and elegant enough for your style . I actually really like the slim jeans in the first few photos and think they suit you well , look very polished and fit beautifully .

My preferences are:
The straight legs, love it with the semi tuck in #5.
Really like the wider straight legs, nice wash, semi-tuck looks very leg lengthening.
The wide crops I feel look best with a heel rather than flats.
I also like your idea of replacing the black girlfriends with a flare or cropped flare. I think they’d look terrific on you.

I’m envious that you look so good in so many different jeans. I’m struggling right now to find a great fit and look. Lots and lots of fails and returns! OK, on to your jeans.

-Slim straights are fine. Not my favorites, but they look nice and if they fill a need for you they could be worth keeping.
-Straight legs are my favorites, by far. Repeat in black? Fantastic!

-Wider straights are very nice.
-Wide slightly cropped are a no for me. I don’t love the wash, the whiskering, or the unfinished hem. BUT, Helena, this is strongly influenced by my personal preferences.

-I also like the black jeans, but if you aren’t feeling fab it’s probably worth trying a cropped flare with a higher rise.

As others have said, trying some different tops in other colors may be worthwhile!

I think all of these suit you in different ways, but my favorites are the second and the last pair! And with them I prefer the more casual styling like in picture #5.
