Have worn with navy/tan/gold loafers ( with fine navy socks) as well as booties. They were a bit long but I just tucked them up on the inside( I think it might be Garance Dore who called this a " French cuff" for jeans) which I could then change up depending on whether for flats or a small heeled bootie. I always hide my waist so it didn't matter they are elastic topped.
