Thanks everyone for some great suggestions! I will be looking into some of these today. I'm hoping the navy (dark) linen helps conceal a little of the wrinkling several of you mentioned. I don't have a problem with whiskering details on my jeans (hips aren't a problem area to me) so maybe it won't matter.

I really like some of the Finds you all posted.

Angie, I just don't wear dresses or skirts. They have never felt right on me, except for dressy occasions. That said, if I found the 'right' dress - slightly sporty, sleeveless, med weight knit, not clingy, not too short, etc. I'd be up for it.

I know what you mean about the drawstring waist. Here is what I do with my linen pants from J. Crew. I do not tie a bow. I make a rather flat knot and put the strings inside rather than outside. Then I wear a top that blouses some and semi tuck, letting the top drape over the gathered waist part. Another option is a top that comes more or less to the bottom of the gathered waist and can be worn out. This helps me feel more put together.

While not particularly stylish, I bought these items in several colors. They will be perfect for hanging around the house, hiking with dogs and just for casual comfort (if the weather ever warms up).

I like a nice loose fitting lightweight cotton pant (see examples below)-- l generally don't wear shorts unless it's going to be over 85F, but find jeans are usually to hot when it's over 70Fin the spring.

Like you, texstyle, I prefer a narrower cut on my cropped pants, for the most part. I've found that even just being a cropped pant feels cooler than jeans, and then when it gets really hot, I switch to bermuda length shorts or skirts.

An exception to the slim cut pants is super loose but structured jeans or pants. They breathe well and give a casual summery look. The fact that they're jeans can be deceptive. I crave some culottes but I have not found those I love.

These finds are from previous seasons but I'm posting for inspiration.

I just bought a pair of Uniqlo's linen/cotton pants. They fit me really well, do have a drawstring too, although enough elastic in the waist that I could *probably* remove the drawstring and have them stay up. They hold a cuff really nicely for casual ankle length. J Crew has a nice pair of tencel/linen pants that do not have a drawstring, but they didn't fit me well enough to keep.

Linen bottoms kind of drive me nuts because they wrinkle from sitting, creating horizontal lines right where I don't need them. Linen blends can work though. However, I find it so hard to find the magical combination of fit, flattery, a good color, and lightweight comfort that I end up compromising.

Always Trying, I loooove Lyocell/Tencel for hot weather. Very breathable, wrinkles like linen but has a smoother finish so looks a little more polished.

The linen would be fine, but the others are cotton with lycra and lycra is the same as spandex. so I am assuming they would be as hot as regular jeans. I found some 100% loycell that is supposed to be breathable like cotton and in some ways better. We will see.

I love these types of pants for those days when you need the extra leg coverage. I've found that pure linen feels a little schlumpy but if you can find a linen-cotton or linen-rayon blend that works a lot better. I opt for those with trouser waistbands and tapered hems, but do have a couple of the drawstring waist type for very casual days. The AE pair might be too warm for truly hot days, but these Athleta pants should work really nicely.

I have a habit of duplicating pants purchases if I find a pair I really like. It's just one of my many neurotic tendencies. This week, I'm taking the extra pairs and hacking them off into crops, which seems to be working out just fine. Now I have a pair for cold weather, and a pair for summer. Maybe there was a method in my madness all this time. I like the Athletas you're showing, they look fresh as a breeze.

Those are both great pants, and I hope they work out for you.
I have to wear full length pants to work and in the summer jeans are too hot. I usually rotate between BF chinos, lose linen pants and silk(y) track pants during that time.

The recent talks about non-jeans alternatives made me think again about the fact that I have very few myself. Especially for warmer weather. I do have plenty of non-denim shorts but I want something with more coverage that is still comfortable in the heat. So I looked at some options and ended up choosing a couple to try that seemed affordable and from familiar to me companies.

I'm ordering the Athetla crop linen pants and the AE twill Tomgirls. I put the linen crops in my Finds but couldn't put the Tomgirls in there for some reason, so here's a link.

I did try linen pants a few years back but they were sort of baggy and just didn't feel "flattering." I'm hoping a more streamlined, cropped pair will feel better. And hoping I can get past the "drawstring" waist thing that I seem to have trouble wearing out of the house. We'll see.
