I bought two merino knit blazers from the local JCrew shop a month ago, so I have this exact grey one and love it! They are both really comfortable. Just for sizing help, my normal size is a 4-6 petite and I bought a regular Small for the additional length. It has soft, dropped shoulders 16" across, and body length 22". I roll up the sleeves like a sweater. The blazer isn't oversized by any means, more a relaxed fit for travel and layering. I wish I'd known it came in red as it would be instant love.

I have the exact same one, viva - as well as the burgundy, sized down. They've been a boon this winter!

And lisap - I actually find that them being unlined is a bonus as they are much more comfortable and allow for some stretch. I don't find they stick to the silk blouses or wool knits I wear underneath.

This review is so informative. Thank you so much for taking the time and providing the links. I would be buying it today, but I don't think I can wear merino wool. I'll look into cotton alternatives.

I've been so tempted by these swacket-y cardi-blazer hybrid things. I looked at them for months in the fall. Think I'm going to sit on my hands and hope they bring them back in burgundy, or maybe olive, or a blue that's not navy, next f/w...

Ms Maven, Mariln, Ummlila: So great to hear from past buyers that this jacket has worked well.

Sizing is so interesting. I think sometimes you just have to try an item for yourself. For me, one size down is absolutely perfect. So, if it doesn't stretch out I'm going to be extremely happy with the size. But there were reviewers who, like Ummlila, felt that even one size down was big. (For reference, I am usually a S and I bought an XS. I am 5'5 with a 34A bust (at best hahaha!) and long arms. Narrow on top.)

Lisap: It's an extremely smooth knit merino wool. I have not yet worn it (tags still on) but I am hoping to wear it this week with a striped tee (cotton), l/g silk shirt, and black crepe top (if the puffy shoulders work).

Thanks Marilyn - I'm a bit taller and heavier than you so an XS might be the ticket. Sometimes the sleeve length in jackets and sweaters works for me in regular - you never know until you try.

I bought the J Crew sweater blazer last fall--a small and I could have gone smaller. Wear it a lot. Good for chilly days in SF Bay area and useful in -0° weather in Chicago at Christmas.

I do love knit blazers. They are far more useful for my life now than more structured blazers or cardigans. I hope they are around for a long time.

Karen13.......I'm petite as well and bought the JC Sweater Blazer in regular. I'm 5', about 106 lbs, 30DD and bought an XXS....I'm usually an XS. Fits perfectly.....the sleeves are even the right length. The length is 1 1/4" longer but it's meant to be a longer blazer anyway.

Thanks so much for posting this, I meant to find it on my own and got distracted. I wish the burgundy and navy were still available in petite :(.

I ready the reviews on the Factory one (no petites) and saw a petite person successfully shrank hers (it is cotton) but I'm not sure I need it badly enough to risk it. I've had some luck with this strategy, but I only do it with existing wardrobe items that I would donate otherwise.

I like this, and could see how it would fit a major hole for me: winter blazers with enough ease for wearing under a coat. Not badly priced at all, either. Now, I see it's not lined ...what are you wearing underneath? Tops don't grab and stick to the wool?

I bought the JC Sweater Blazer in cabernet and black last fall. Love it! It's got the structure and polish of a blazer and the comfort of a cardigan.....the best of both worlds. Yes....it runs big. I went down one size.

I have this blazer, too, in the navy, from when it first came out. My only quibble with it is that it ran very large even in a size down. Madewell has a version now too, on a larger scale. I'm thinking of ordering it fr loungewear purposes with mens-y looking striped pajamas.

A couple of you expressed interest in this knit jacket from JCrew, so here it is. JC actually has several knit blazers to choose from -- a fuller, longer less structured one (which I tried but found overwhelming) and one like this that is cropped (not what I was looking for). Also, one from Factory.

The less structured one comes in navy, black, and tan and is available in petite.
https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens.....name=black

The cropped is only available in XXS and red, right now, but on very deep sale for any tiny women out there: https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens.....or_name=be

Here's the one from JCrew Factory. I have not seen it in person so can't vouch for its quality or fit.

https://factory.jcrew.com/p/wo.....sisearchen

I love the one I kept - heather dusk, one size down. (I probably could wear my regular size too, but it would be slightly roomy.) It is a beautiful knit, has great lines, and is a perfect length. Feels blazer-y but also comfy. I like it with the collar up and down. I'll post some pics of me wearing it this weekend, when I try to assemble some work-travel outfits for next week.
