Yes we are. All our friends live in Tel Aviv and they are planning our itinerary for us. So nice of them. (That way, I can spend more time on the forum!). I’d love to meet you Hannah. We’ll have to correspond closer to the time. I LOVE Israeli food and my mouth is watering thinking about it. And Hebrew is my favourite language on earth :0)

Angie, you are going to be in Israel? Wow!! Will we be able to meet? Please please? Not much shopping in Israel, unfortunately, but we have good food!

I live in Haifa. I am originally from Jerusalem, but we found a job in Haifa after postdoc (we did postdoc in Boston), so we relocated to Haifa.

I usually love Israel too, just not when I had to find a formal dress

(I LOVE Israel, Hannah. It has been the one and only place on earth that has totally and utterly hypnotized me from the moment I set foot on its ground. I do not have the words to describe how the intoxicating magic of places like Jerusalem, Haifa, Galilee and the Dead Sea affects your soul. Where in Israel do you live? We have many Israeli friends and are heading over there on 16th April).

Back to the outfit! Your clutch is super, so no worries if you don’t manage to get another one. You look 120% beautiful and are glowing from within.

Thank you all so much! It is such a relief to check the outfit box of my preparation for the trip! Now I only have to prepare four presentations about my research ...

Angie -
Yes, I live in Israel. This is what makes looking for a formal outfit such a daunting task You see, the culture of formal dressing is non-existent here. This outfit is way more formal that people wear to weddings, bar-mitzvas, and other formal occasions. In fact, I don't think I dressed as fancy to my own wedding! I am working on the "clutch problem": I like leather for all my bags including clutches, and I like this designer; I went there to check whether they have a brighter color, and they don't yet, but they might (they are in the middle of receiving the spring collection). So I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will get something in time. I am so glad you approve the outfit!

Shiny -
I actually thought that the JCrew dresses should work better on women with smaller busts ... funny how we always see the half-empty cup. In general, I think that cross-over neckline is good for most figures, because it adjusts to the bust size. They have the same dress in chiffon as well (I think silk one looks better, but I haven't seen the chiffon in person). I am also very impressed by the quality.

Brianna -
The clutch is leather, so I don't think I can put the brooch on it though it is a nice idea.

KILLER. I like the length.

Love the JCrew dress, Hannah! Sleeveless makes ALL the difference. Definitely teal and definitely the last photo wrt how to tie the wrap. Love those alluring shoulders. Superb lipstick and fishnets will seal the deal. Well done! Now, how about that clutch?

Do you live in Israel?

you look so lovely! i really like either of the last two looks. the one with the brooch is very stylish, but the wrapping looks a little sloppy compared to the last pic. could you put the brooch somewhere on the pashmina in the last photo?

You look great!! Teal is definetly your color. The pashmina is "a lot" - I never know how to wear those either, so I'll let someone else comment. I like the outfit without it the best - showing off your pretty arms and figure! Lipstick - perfect.

My only critique: I suspect the hem could come up a bit. I will wait to hear what others say though!

I have to say I'm heartened to see the Jcrew dress work so well on your lovely figure. I've tried their dresses in the past, and have long ruled them out for women with smaller chests. You make me want to order this dress for myself.

I agree with everything San said, including liking the teal pashmina with the brooch pinned to it or worn it bit off the shoulder as in the last picture. You look wonderful. The lipstick gives you more polish.

You look really nice! I am no expert on the formal look but I like teal pashmina with pearls. I can't see the cami and the dress fabric, so I can't comment on that. Also, congratulations on this event! I haven't had a chance to say it yet.

Yes you look beautiful. I actually liked the teal pashmina with the brooch pinned to it. You look lovely and stylish and like a classy famous researcher! Yay your hard work in researching your outfit has paid off.
Also, your hair is very pretty and shiney, and I love the shoes too. The lipstick looks very nice.

The Jcrew dress arrived, and I realized that I must wear a cami underneath, otherwise the cleavage is completely indecent (especially for a "famous researcher") So I had to put a cami underneath.
Here is the link to the album:
http://picasaweb.google.com/ha.....directlink
I am wearing the dress with a black silky cami. The cami is actually cut lower in the back than the dress, so in the back I still have the original nice V.
I tried to walk around with the brooch pinned to the pearls, and the feeling is like wearing a needle on my neck, because of the brooch's closure :(
So, in the photos I am wearing just the pearls and pearl studs (and my wedding set). I tried the silver and with the teal pashmina, tied in different ways. I also attempted to incorporate the brooch by pinning it to the pashmina (you can see it on several photos), but, as Tim Gunn would probably say "that's a lot of look" (in this case, that's a lot of pashmina).
Oh, and I found microfishnets! They had them in ONE store, the LAST pair. Unbelievable. They are also very delicate, so I was afraid to snag them, this is why I didn't put them on for the pictures. I guess you will just have to imagine this part ...
The hair is, unfortunately, the best I can do myself. Sort of half-up-half-down.
I also put on lipstick - found one in MAC that is supposed to stay for 10 hours (gave it a test-drive, and it stayed for three hours, which is record time for me). It is "midnight rose" color. I normally don't wear anything that bright on my lips, but I think it looks ok ... does it? I will also put mascara for the actual event.
So ... what do you say? Do I look appropriate?
Many thanks!!!
