haha BJ1111 - can I join you for dinner? Mark has been on a work/school placement with an electronics company Azbil since June. He's studying computer science and languages at UBC in Vancouver and hopes to pursue post grad studies in linguistics. Am so proud of him :-)

Diana!!! The power of YLF. There is a Beard Papa about 30 minutes away from me. I'll definitely check this out. Thank you for posting the link!

I'm with you Angie - the food is divine! And the bizarre thing is with all the eating, I still managed to come home a few pounds lighter. Magic food in everyway.
I loved the green tea ice cream as well Amy - but the cream puffs were to die for. Please post pics of your creations - I'm going to try them as well!

Green tea KitKats, why have I not heard of them? Green-tea soft-serve ice cream is my favorite.

Parsley, TYSVM for recipe! THAT's what I'm making to bring for Thanksgivikah. Host said they were all set, so if nobody likes these....more for me!

Warning - reading this post could make you salivate...or head to Japan...or both :-)

The food was so glorious! I love every variation of fish and couldn't have been happier with my meals. Each dish was always so exquisitely presented, a piece of art on beautiful pottery.

My first meal - pic 1 and 2 (check out the gorgeous unagi in pic 2). I'd just arrived in Tokyo the night before and headed off first thing in the morning to Tsukiji Fish Market. Belly up to the bar and diving into the catch of the day. And that was another great thing about Japan, I was solo for much of the time, but felt perfectly comfortable dining and touring on my own. Generally there was a counter ( and in some places that's all there was) so no problem finding a seat for one.

Pics 3-5 market shots. Look at the bags of roe in pic 3! Another favourite for me! Typically I'd start the day with a fairly western breakfast -that would be pic 6 ;-). I needed something filling to start the day. Portions are definitely a lot smaller compared to what we are used to in North America, but it suited me fine as I'm a bit of a snacker.

I came in out of the cold one afternoon in Kyoto and had the delicious repast pictured in 7-8. Fresh soba noodles prepared in house, and lovely tempura - batter light as air.

Pic 9-10 - my favourite snack. Green tea cream puffs! Divine!!!

Pic 11 - tofu salad - yummm!

Dinner with my boy in Kamakurra pics 12-15. In 13 I've zoomed in our young cook, with wee babe on her back. Fresh grilled salmon and another tofu salad - all beautifully presented.

Snack time again (16-17) this time green tea fish waffles. It was fun to watch these being prepared. (Still loving the cream puffs more)

I'd heard of conveyor belt sushi - and was thrilled to experience it. So yummy and easy on the wallet. 137 yen ( under 2.00) for each delicious dish.

And thanks to rachylou for the tip on Green Tea kit kats - my colleagues made short work of them. Me - I'm still longing for the cream puffs and unagi.
