Joy your challenge seems extra hard with such a limited color palette. But it seems like you are learning a lot! And I respect your subtle red-sock rebellion. :-)

Helena, thanks so much! I also really liked #7 and did a variation on the same formula this past week which I dare say I liked even better.

I will be glad when January is over. Today I dug out a black and sparkly long skirt worn with a black sweater and felted black Ann Taylor jacket. I wore red sparkly socks which did not show under black booties. I am grabbing at straws at this point of not repeating for a month. I changed the skirt for new black pants to do a daily walk around the neighborhood. They had not been worn yet. But may be repeated this week. Still a few days of January left.

Star yes, I think Ralph Lauren is having a bit of a renaissance these days (I know he never really went away but it seems like there's lots of interest in his vintage looks). I'm on the bandwagon!

Suz yes, I think you got the worst of the weather -- we had a bit of sleet in the middle of last week but not the big snows that you got. The new sweater does have some texture, but not quite as much as is showing up in the photo for some reason. I appreciate you cheering me on in this challenge!

Zaeobi thanks for mentioning the rounded features as structure. I know that rounded features often suit me and I'm on the hunt for gentle structure these days -- now I know it's often one and the same thing, which is helpful framing.

Roberta, cozy storm clouds -- I'll take it! That sounds nice

Rachylou, "near simplicity" -- I like that!

Thanks Jaime and suntiger!

Star I think the patterned knitwear+ textured woven woolens is a ralph Lauren influence for me, but really I suspect it's more broadly a traditional British thing. Does that sound right? My sweater is rather an unusual construction -- it has a lapped neckline, so I plan to just tack together the overlap so it doesn't fall open more than I want it to.

Angie, thanks! I appreciate your ability to imagine your way past my dark pictures and envision how the outfits look in real life. I do feel that this is my most useful challenge yet in terms of rich learning. Exciting!!

The teal beanie is adorable with the teal bag in #5. Fably complemented :)

I bet #8 looked even better in person because the skirt is burgundy, yet looks black in the pic! Good job changing into another outfit for your work function! Those short over long layers suit you.

My faves are #7 and #8!

#7 - one of your most chic looks, yet :)

I like # 7 the most, simple yet interesting and polished. The colour mix is totally up my alley (wearing navy, black and a dash of off-white today), and the herringbone and fair isle together is interesting, I never would have put the two together for some reason yet I love the result. The neck on my fair isle knit is doing something similar - annoying! Any tips on how to take it in?

I like how the 'rounded' features elevate your pieces with structure but without making them too formal for your more casual needs (like the rounded hems, collars & necklines). I even quite like the 'rounded' Queen Anne neckline that the cardigan creates in #3!

Bonus points for the matchy teal green bag & hat complement in #5

Wow, a ton of variety in silhouette this week! Brava! Looks like you made a grey sub for the grey tunic sweater -- this one has an interesting heathered nubby texture, too, no?

Yay for the dress trousers work-from-home look! Also for the very interesting layering and proportions all round. I think my faves are 4.6.7 but all are inventive and appropriate to the wild winter weather! I think we had it worse than you up here -- following the brittle cold (which I'm not really complaining about since I got 3 days of amazing outdoor skating in) we had MAJOR snow and then rain/ sleet for 3 days. It has rained since and it is all almost gone. But wow, what a storm.

I'm on my phone so going to keep it short tonight. Here's what I wore last week:

1-3: mid-wash skinny jeans, gray silk tunic, charcoal reindeer cardi. Good idea, but I'd like to make a couple tweaks to the components: remove pockets from the tunic which bunch up and create bulk around the hips, and tack down the collar of the cardi. I do really love the cut of the cardi at the hem, which is longer/rounded in back.

4-5: navy velvet jeans, black burnout velvet top, big black cardi. I really like the combo of black and ink these days. Have I said that already? 5 is the bundled up version.

6: black corduroy jeans, blue plaid top, burgundy cardi

7: jumping on the dress trousers for working from home bandwagon. Wool blend herringbone pants, black/blue/white Nordic pullover, black stompy boots. Would have preferred my gray suede ankle boots but I also had a walking errand to do and it was messy out. Think I also need to take in the neckline of the sweater a bit.

8: I get bonus points for changing clothes for my evening event (professional association annual party). Rose silk top and fair isle cardi combo debuted last week, here with my burgundy velvet skirt. Footwear was black patent stompy boots.

9: black ponte leggings, lavender tunic, gray cardi, cognac riding boots.

10: skirt leggings, polar bear tee, ivory cardi

11: lavender velvet jeans, gray tunic sweater. (Sweater is new to my closet and will replace a similar item you've seen in previous challenge posts. The other one is showing wear and the too long sleeves with wide ends always bothered me. I'm enjoying the greater level of structure in this version.)

On to a new week. Thanks for looking!
