There was a fair bit of shopping by me after a two month shopping hiatus. But I was focussed on needs except for a dress that is pure indulgence.

I agree with Angie re Jan although it’s summer here so a different vibe.

Well, I don't know what the year will bring, but if this month is any indication...I began January excited about ordering a (too) expensive pair of chinos on big sale from a brand I love, but they didn't work at all. The cut was off for my current shape, and I was surprised to find that the beautiful light colored fabric picked up an incredible amount of lint just in the time I tried them on (I'm so used to denim!) I had to use the lint brush, a lot, just to send them back looking like they had arrived. And the return process from US to Canada turned into a bit more arduous than I was in the mood for. I find I'm losing some of my mojo for shopping and buying new clothes (or is it just online shopping...? ) though I'm loving the ones I have. We'll see how this plays out for the year. So this month, I acquired zero new clothes!

I'm going to try and keep purchases to a minimum also- and so far so good! I bought a lot last year because of changing sizes and several unusual needs (professional travel, family wedding etc). So it feels right to take it easy and enjoy what I have, and to not have to spend $ and mental energy managing decisions and returns etc.

I've been tracking wears for January and the results confirm that my wardrobe is just fine- I wore every seasonally appropriate item at least once, and only jeans, shoes, and jackets got worn more than twice.

January is usually a big shopping month for me, the sales are so good! I am about a third of the way to my goal of 20 items for the year, but I'm not too worried about that. I have a few new summer things in storage that I bought too late in the season to wear, so those will be some happy surprises when warm weather comes.

I did remove two dozen items from my wardrobe, which is a good start. Still so BIG, though! And I started posting an occasional WIW on YLF, which was another goal.

I'm not sure how well I've stuck to my goal of purchasing fewer items this year but I did honor my color of the year. I added two items, a pair of sneakers and a pair of jeans in blue. The sneakers were bought for comfort and the jeans were in an updated style I've been wanting to try. Both make me happy!

My resolution is to shop my closet as much as possible until I see where my medication related weight gain is going. I can shop for things that are not affected like shoes and accessories, and if I buy clothes they must be weight fluctuations friendly. I haven’t bought anything in January.

I did a No Buy through the holidays. I have since been working on figuring out gaps my Summer wardrobe, filling them with pieces on deep sale. I am not at all concerned about the spike in shopping, as I won’t do another real restock until Summer, when last Winter’s things are on deep discount and I am planning for Fall.

I’ve not set any goals or resolutions — too much pressure and we have a lot going on with a big home renovation so I was just not feeling the need for any big efforts at the moment.

But the only purchases I made in January were basics:

- a new pair of pajama pants (sale at Anthro)
- a set of socks (bombas)
- a basic black cami because I forgot mine on my trip to FL (Jockey from Macy’s) — it’s good to have two anyway

I had a bit of retail fun in December, so not in a rush to do more shopping for a while.

January is one birthday after another in our family, so besides all the resolving, there is a whole lot of gifting going on. February always feels like a sigh of relief (and of course, the approach of Valentine's Day - the card-maker's dream.)

Onward.

I have to face a big wardrobe renewal. At the end of last Summer I finally got rid of all the unnecessary (very liberating, right?) and now I have remained with very little. I miss sweaters, pants, a pair of booties, a new puffer. I would also like to find some dressy Spring tops to wear as layers under my pullovers now and as stand-alone pieces later.
But I have done nothing so far. I'm so reluctant when it comes to go shopping!

Yep, one for me in January as well. A silk top, am calling it my Mondrian top, lots of bright colours. Last one in the company, in my local store, my size, reduced from $218 to $80. Will model for forum in the autumn ( here-March).
I am still trying to buy less and reduce wardrobe. Think is 146 or 147 items now.

Good for you sticking to your goals. Replacing essentials that are ten years old sounds, well, essential. ;) I am not a big purchaser in general, because I have a really large wardrobe that I am trying to reduce, 1 in 2 out last year - almost achieved. I plan to continue with that practice in 2023. I have decided to shop seasonally (thrift shops) and no more than 5 items per season. I probably will not shop Autumn because it is really short and do have enough in that area. Winter and summer mostly, so maybe 10 to 15 pieces maximum for the year. I have already purchased 2 items of clothing in January. A long gray wool-blend knit made in Italy that is already well on it's way to being a workhorse. I have worn it 7 times since purchasing. It filled a hole of a long knit that is cut properly so fits in a flattering way. I also purchased a summer item in advance. A light gray short-sleeved fluid top, with an interesting neckline, which has a luminous sheen. Very nice, made in Portugal. I think it will be a workhorse too. Also an accessory was thrifted, a copper handbag strap, to use on my Sisley bag. The original strap is very thin and uncomfortable. All 3 items cost me the the equivalent $4.50.

I've yet to make concrete goals for this year, but January & February are typically high purchasing months for me (what with multiple birthdays & CNY sales). I'm also struggling with my Style Moniker these days (feel like it's descriptive but not 'forward looking' enough to give direction, IYKWIM).

All that to say, you're doing a much better job than me lol! But I *did* order some replacement basics (turtlenecks, cotton tops, socks), skincare topups & preemptive fancy accessories (gold bag & flat sandals, for an outdoor wedding), so at least it's *controlled* shopping lol?

You just inspired me to create my own post . I'm with you in enjoying not ordering, returning, shopping in general. January is a good month to regroup and refocus. I don't have a target or limit of number of things I'll buy ; rather, my goal is to make anything new more useful across more categories. I predict this will be a melding of around-the-house stuff and other casual clothes into one better category.

Well I don't think having under 25 purchases for the year will happen, considering I'm at 9 now. But I passed on more than that due to (mostly) condition- which keeps my main goal of stable wardrobe size.

Bags went to leatherworker for repairs too. That was a goal.

As I have mentioned, except for basics and shoes, I'm going to try and buy little to nothing new-from-retail this year. I'll stick with pre-owned, resale, etc. as much as possible.

I ordered a few replacement HeatTechs since my old ones are at least ten years old, pilled and discolored. Other than that, January was a "no clothing" month for me.

I have SO enjoyed not having to make lots of returns! And I have enjoyed simplifying my closet by giving things away that I really wasn't wearing.

Anyone else want to update us on a wardrobe-related resolution and how it's going so far?
