Thank you very much, Elisabeth P, I hope you will show us your lovely vintage brooch!

Toban, thank you very much for the wise advise, it is so very true. A feeling about an outfit is so important. Scoring an outfit like that is a great idea, I will definitely start doing it.

In this particular outfit, I just do not feel pretty and hence, not happy about it. Trying to work with it to modify it etc., because I will not give up on this poncho quite yet. Sterling, thank you so much that you care to follow up and that you put so much time and effort in helping others on this forum with their challenges. It is so generous of you. The Forum suggestions sound very good and I am going to revisit the poncho outfit and try to implement the ideas. I will be back with some pics later during the challenge.

FashIntern, thank you for the interesting idea, I have not though of it this way. I am mot usually wearing so much pattern in tops, but I will try to find something that might work. I have a long striped blouse - I will try it.

Thanks Bonnie, it is probably what this poncho has become - a wardrobe orphan waiting for her friends :-)

On the color combo—how about a patterned top to break up blocks of color? It could be as simple as a stripe or something much busier, with tan or cream in it to pick up the poncho’s color. That might be a good way to wear something you aren’t completely comfortable in otherwise, because it’s too crazy.

Is the reason you were not completely happy with today's outfit because it is difficult to style? Would Forum suggestions help going forward?

I really like this outfit, but I think it's important to note that you were less happy with it. I find a lot of value in paying attention to that emotion and trying to figure out what it was that didn't make the outfit feel better. I mentally score each outfit I wear on a scale of 1 to 10 and try to figure out how to improve any outfit where my score is less than an 8 to make it an 8 or more. I sometimes ask my husband to rate the outfit as well ;). It's a fun game that has helped my outfit building.

Welcome to posting on the forum Katerina. And nicely done! I think you've done a great job of volume on volume, you look very comfortable in this, despite finding the poncho challenging. I really like the way you accessorized it with the scarf and brooch.

You've actually reminded me of a brooch I have and MUST wear.

SaraD8, thank you for the compliment, it is very kind of you and thanks for sharing your experience with a similar project - it is very helpful to hear what other people have worked out.

Smittie, thanks a lot for the kind words and for your time. I like your suggestion - will try another top with tighter arms and perhaps a pair of slim trousers. I was also thinking about the colour combination - perhaps it is too much contrast between the beige and the navy - going to try with white/cream later on.

Thanks Rachylou, Joy, Debora and Shevia, you are so kind! It is all this kindness, enthusiasm and encouragement what makes YLF so wonderful!

Angie, thank you very much for the feedback and for your kind words. I have deliberately chosen navy instead of black for this outfit thinking of you :-) It is great to be part of the YLF community. You have done such a wonderful job!

Sterling, I really appreciate your support and understanding! You are absolutely right, it is scary to post pictures, especially now in the beginning. It is such a fun challenge though, and I can see already that it will be a very useful tool to manage my wardrobe. Things become clear in a completely different way, when you force yourself to take a picture of a "proper" outfit - as Bella has said in her post on her first 30x30 challenge outfit. Thank you very much for this project!

Congratulations on your first post. Ponchos can be difficult to style because they can limit arm movement and the volume can get in the way. You did a great job. It does not look overwhelming. I am looking forward to seeing more of your outfits

I’m trying to think of ways to style this poncho. I do agree that there is something odd about it in this outfit.
Perhaps wear a knit top under it with tighter arms?

Katerina, I think that's a nice example of a successful volume-on-volume outfit but you don't sound too enthused!

I did a project a while ago where I tried reducing the size of my wardrobe by wearing things (vs. just trying them on). When I didn't love an outfit I found it helpful to ask myself "what would I rather be wearing ?" And "what swap would make this outfit better?"

I often found that pieces I found difficult to style could be swapped out for other more versatile pieces to make outfits that I liked at least as well.

Emily, thank you for your feedback and encouragement. It is interesting and helpful to hear about your experience.

FashIntern, thank you, it is very kind. Yes, you are right. I have a rather large wardrobe. During 2017, I went trough it several times and reduced the number of items quite a lot. I have not counted them though. The items, which are left, are those which I wanted to keep and wear - still many - and I will probably consider passing on some stuff after this challenge is finished. My goal is to utilize the clothes I have in my wardrobe and to wear them regularly in some sort of rotation. It might be useful, as you suggest, to make a rule about not repeating any items. I will start with this ambition and see if I manage to keep it throughout the challenge.

I think you did nicely with that poncho, letting it flow over simple, fairly structured layers.

As I understand it, you want to wear as much of your clothing as possible. Is that right? Unlike those of us who are trying to find the max number of good combinations with a limited number of pieces, you might want to consider not permitting yourself to repeat any item.

Hi Katerina! I participated in the previous 30X30 and found lots of value in documenting my outfits in photos. I also found that doing so held me to a higher standard in outfit creation because I knew I'd be sharing WIW here, in the forum. I tried to go the entire 30 days without duplicating an outfit exactly. I think you were very brave to start out with an item you are not crazy about--the poncho--as the limited number of items encourages you to rewear some, if not most!

This is my first WIW post and my first YLF challenge, so please excuse the horrible quality and setting of the pictures. I hope to improve my skills, it is learning by doing for me

The rules I have set for myself are as follows:
- I will document what I wear every day during January.
- The 30 items is a minimum number and will not include outerwear, shoes or handbags, jewelry or glasses. If the number 30 will be exceeded, it is ok.
- I will include scarves (worn indoors), as these almost always are an integral part and sometimes the most important part of my outfit. I will also include toppers worn indoors.
- I have not determined in advance which 30 items I will use, these will be added as the challenge goes forward.

The purpose for me is to actively work with my outfits every day and try to create as much variety as possible. My goal for 2018 is to utilize the wardrobe I already own. I would like to wear all my clothes, including the pieces, which often get left behind for the favorites. I would like to accessorize my outfits in a better way. I would also like to identify wardrobe holes.

Today, I post an outfit I worn to run some errands and doing some shopping. I am not very happy with the outfit actually, this knitted poncho is not my favourite and it is quite difficult for me to style it nicely. However, I decided to be true to the reality in this challenge, and I post also the outfits I wear, but do not love.

I wear navy blue wide trousers and a navy blue silk blouse under a beige knitted poncho. I have added a hand made vintage brooch and a silk Aquascutum scarf in beige, navy and burgundy. I wear burgundy patent leather flat booties, which unfortunately are not visible in the pics. I wear also a pair of large red sunglasses.

Greatful for honest feedback and any ideas about the outfit or my rules for the challenge.
