Great idea to try. I think especially for wear. Years ago, I was able to get an occasional matching pants and blazer from Austin Reed or Jones NY, but mostly had no luck buying actual “ matching” pieces from the same grouping and fabric or dye lots to mix and match. I’m sure I focused too much on sale items relative to my ability to gradually build my vision of what I wanted to wear. Not meaning I needed to spend a lot more money, but that I shied away from brands or full- price items that might have actually given more value with fewer pieces. Also was doing all B& M shopping for decades.
But as well, I was pretty busy with career and raising children!

It is now full year since my weight became stable within +-0.5 kg arround 56kg. And I am not on any diet or exercise regime so I really hope that I will be able to maintain it. But it will take time for me to be able to relax and not worry about weight fluctuations after years of extreme changes.

Maybe you want to start a thread about professional looking items that are friendly to size changes. Do you wear wrap dresses well? Blazers are notoriously finicky about shoulder fit; maybe coatigans would work for your workplace? I think of wrap skirts as a casual item, but maybe there are some that are work appropriate.

Keeping the larger sizes is biggest dilemma for me, because I have too many different sizes and not enough space to keep all. It has been 2 years since I wore US10 last, and just recently I donated all of my items in that size. I have now managed to replace almost all US8 items and will be donating them soon. Size US6 I plan to keep for some time, items in that size are in the storage now. Majority of my current wardrobe is US4 and I still wear it even though it is not perfect since I need US2 now. I am still reluctant to buy US2 since I think it is easier to make something smaller then bigger.
White Vagabond boots are too high for me now, haven’t worn them since 2019.

That sounds like a good, measured shopping idea. You can fine-tune sizes to what you need each month. I tend to be a bit bigger in winter than in summer. You know my thoughts on things that don’t fit—if you still like them and think your weight is liable to change, why not tuck them aside so they are ready when you need them instead of doing another round of churn? When my weight was rising, I did not enjoy shopping for bigger sizes, even though I eventually got things I liked. It’s much easier to pull something out of storage (assuming you have room somewhere).

Those blazers make me wish I could wear blazers! I adore fringed blazers in general and really like these clear colors. Ditto the blue blazer—I’m a sucker for sailor anything and really like double-breasted looks, plus that blue is one of my favorites. They both look great on you, including with your new-ish hair, and with the pants.

About white boots—I still love ones you got from Vagabond, but didn’t you say they don’t work for your feet anymore?

Fair enough. I have tried to reduce my weight in the past 2 years for my health’s sake but it was only by 5-6 kilos and I have not really dropped size much-either no drop or one size. I wear elastic waist pants which helps. Your weight loss was so much!
Menopause- that could well change things indeed. I was 46 or 47 and that was when I did gain weight. But in my case it also coincided with severe bullying and a lot of misery when I possibly comfort ate also. I am nearly 60 now and that is all well behind me. Good luck!

Jenni - I do hope that once I replace everything that I am not happy how it fits, and finally move from building to maintenance that I can decrease number of items I buy per year. That all depends if my weight stays stable and I am worried about that because I haven’t hit menopause yet.

This does sound a sensible approach for you because you dress in capsules. I don’t dress that way and given that I am trying to downsize my wardrobe not increase it I am almost scared to buy more than one thing at a time. Last year only buying 12 things it was definitely one at a time. I am frightened that I will not wear the things enough so I am very very careful what I choose.

You got the fun blazer! It looks fab on you. Trousers too.
I don't tend to buy full outfits but I do do it more often than when I was younger and dressed more haphazardly (and more minimalist after). Especially if I buy a statement item that I 'm unsure I have the perfect piece to go with yet. Since you wear a lot of color and matching suits I can see this approach working very well for you. I'm curious to follow!

Excellent strategy, Anchie. When B&M stores were open, I tended to do a big seasonal shop in Spring and Fall. I would do something similar to you, only I would buy more items to create a bigger capsule of mix and match items that made a few outfits.

I think shopping for a complete outfit would work very well, and provide some shopping discipline. Using one item from your closet as a focus (like your plaid jacket) with a view to building flexibility in your closet, is brilliant. The fact that you are planning for and anticipating next month’s outfit makes the exercise fun.

This would probably help with having seasonally appropriate outfits for months that you might have trouble with (I’m thinking high summer) and with maintaining a current/on trend style.
