So from the USA (because it cost 60c) The back of the envelope does show all the sizing and measurements. They are small by Australian standards (in Oz most sizes start at 8), let alone US ones.

I agree with Joy's suggestion of a longsleeved knit top underneath. This is quite of popular look over here at the moment

Thanks for your responses! The pattern is a vintage Vogue from the 50's. Here's where I yoinked the image from (check out the back of the envelope!): http://www.etsy.com/view_listi.....id=9268851

Joy, I have a cropped white jeans jacket that I've been hesitant about pairing with it. I'm afraid of too much structure in one outfit, but I think I'll give it a try.

Shell, a wrap is a good idea, but I don't know if I'd wear it with anything else.

Interesting, Anne. I wonder what year that pattern is from.

It would seem that any jacket you use with this dress would need to be of a heavy fabric like denim or twill or leather.
Instead of a jacket over the dress, have you tried a long-sleeved knit top under the dress? You could leave some of the top buttons of the dress undone to show the top underneath. With the mandarin collar you could use scoop, crew or funnel neck tops.

Off topic, did you notice the sizing on that pattern? Size 14 and a 32 inch bust and 35 inch hips! Shows how much sizes have changed!

My favorite dress is a navy corduroy shirtdress with short kimono sleeves. Given the heavy fabric used, the sleeves stick out and poke quite a bit, which is fine on its own, but is a big problem when I need to wear a jacket over it.

The dress has exactly the same sleeves as this one, but with a straight skirt and mandarin collar.
http://i15.photobucket.com/alb.....e_7689.jpg

I wear it with a skinny belt, either red snakeskin or tan. Lately, I've worn a white hoodie over it, but I'd like something either edgy or retro to complete the look.

Any ideas as to what I can wear over it, spring-fall? I live in san francisco.
