I haven't yet sewn a lined jacket, but I know people who have started sewing with very ambitious projects, like historical costuming, and the like - I'm of the opinion that if you're excited about it, you can make it. Sewing is just following one step after another, it's just that some projects have more steps than others!

If you post a picture on the Pattern Review forums, the folks there are very good about finding patterns that match RTW. There's a jacket in a recent Knipmode (Dutch pattern mag) that I have that's similar, although the lapel detail is a bit more angled across the body instead of straight up and down. I'll try to take a picture and post it for you. I think the lapel detail is the key thing to get right - you can see the way it curves up and around the neck in the model photos, and then straight down as a panel through the body of the jacket, and crosses over when the jacket is fastened. Everything else is pretty simple, princess seams and it looks like a two-piece sleeve.

Don't know anything about sewing, but I agree that the blazer is fab. Great shape to hid a little tummy flab, but so slimming and elongating.

*Nodding* At what Amy's bf said. Just regular seaming that gives a great fit due to the positioning. Looks like a fab jacket.

Lounging about with bf, who sews. Care for a man's take?

His first concern is the fabric used, says if you're trying this at home, it'll be "satisfyingly simple" in high-quality 100% wool but "an exercise in frustration" in the blend they use.

The three-piece sleeves *can* provide even better fit than standard two-piece. In this jacket, they might be just a design element. Either way, dont let one extra seam scare you. You can still sew the sleeve lining as two pieces. For lining, use silk with a bit of Lycra, it's easier to work with than synthetics are and makes a world of difference in wear.

He's not sure what you mean by "level of seaming" and says the six-panel design (vs four, some jackets don't have the side/underarm pieces this one does) can give a better fit, if you fit it in the right places.

The triangle on the back looks like it's formed by darts, which might be a "slightly functional" design element.

bf's nudging me toward learning to sew, but I'm not sure I'd find it as easy as he makes it sound. I was drooling over coats and jackets in a line of patterns he showed me, but sewists here said not to start with that. Now he says there's a company that generates patterns according to your measurements and I might like some of their designs, so I'll look at that once I've signed off here.

bf said more about your jacket, but I couldnt catch it all, thumb typing this on phone.

(Who was it who posted about long jackets 3 weeks ago? Bet she'd dig this one.)

That is really lovely. So simple but I bet it's flattering on many body types if the fit is good.

My sewing skills are limited to needle-and-thread button replacement and seam repair, so I'll leave that bit to the more knowledgable!

I'm am swooning over this jacket/blazer worn by the Duchess of Cambridge. If you scroll down there's a pic of the back detailing and it is really amazing.

http://whatkatewore.com/2013/1.....new-hospic

For the sewists on the forum, how difficult would it be to recreate this level of seaming? I don't care about the triangular insert, and except for the seaming at the elbow, it just looks like princess seams with pockets inset at the front princess seams?
