Agh, I'm looking into this too. My sleeves only need to be shortened by less than an inch, but I guess I'd prefer to have them taken up at the shoulder if it will look better and not be ridiculously priced.

I had a cropped tux jacket with functional buttons shortened and I admit I don't like what they did to the button placket. They just sort of closed up the button holes and moved the buttons up to a non functional spot and stuck them on as decor. I never went back to them after that.

I had! I had a trench coat!
I'm a petite armed too!
It cost me nothing because here in portugal many stores have that service for free!
The work was perfect and I was very happy!

I just bought a new suit from Ann Taylor:

 http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/p.....Color=3043

I got a petite, but as usual, the sleeve length is too long and needs to be altered. All my jackets have to be altered, or if they are the right sort of jacket, rolled up. (And for what I need this suit for, rolling up the sleeves is not an option.) This is what I get for being a short-armed 5'1" person. However, the functional buttons/buttonholes give me pause. Has anyone ever had a jacket altered from the shoulder for sleeve length, and was it successful? And, how much did it cost?

I like the suit, I need the suit for work, but I am not in love, and if this alteration is going to be a huge pain, back the suit will go and I'll continue to shop.
