Dana, no tights! I could definitely feel the wind through my jeans when I was outdoors, and for a day when I would be spending more time outside, I would probably wear some thermals underneath, or my UA running tights, which work really well as a warm under layer. But my legs are usually the last part of me to feel cold. I did have thin sock liners plus wool socks in those boots though -- my feet and my hands are the first parts of me to freeze!

I love this look and colour scheme on you, Janet! It's so perfect when a previous orphan steps back into the limelight, like owning a whole new item. Your bundled up look is so much more chic than the ridiculous maxi-puffer I've been wearing. Well done for staying stylish in this crazy weather.

This outfit is SO GOOD! I love the way those interesting, long sweater cuffs peek out under the jacket, and even past the winter coat. That design detail totally makes the sweater... it looks a little like thumbholes, without the same impracticality or athletic connotations.

Una, you're right. I had grown a little unsure whether this jacket is the best color on me since it is warmer than my preferred cool silver/pewter tones (the closeup photo skewed the color cooler than it really is), but I think it still works. It's cropped enough that it requires a little more care on styling than my other, longer motos, but I found some good pairings last night so I now feel like I can make a good outfit quickly with it.

I like this a lot. The sweater is gorgeous - I can see how the metallic fleck could really bring in hardware from jackets effectively. The colour is stunning.

I definitely see this as a success and worthy of repeating!!

I did read your first thread, and you had some excellent points. I did the same last winter with a couple of pieces that were not seeing the daylight much....with a couple it highlighted that they needed to go, others actually became really useful pieces.

I am on the look out for a new coat this winter and I think a cocoon coat may be the best for layering reasons.

I've been enjoying wearing this jacket today, and I really don't think it's any less physically comfortable than a sweater or less structured topper. I could maybe stand a little more coverage on my wrists (gah, the wind!), but that's pretty minor. I consider today's outfit a success.

Thanks, Sterling and Donna!

Donna, my coat is a size 8 and sufficiently roomy to layer underneath and accommodate my hips, which is usually the trickiest part of a straighter cut coat for me. I'm 5'7" and short-torsoed and typically wear a 6 or 8 in tops. So I'd say this coat runs pretty TTS or maybe a little on the generous side since sometimes I can go up to a 10 in a coat that allows for layering.

This looks great Janet! Isn't it so nice to discover an item that helps revive and de-orphanize! I love that coat... I was tempted to get it in the cabernet, they are on final sale now. hmmm... but final. Do you mind if I ask what size yours is? Some of the reviews said it runs large and some said small. I think I'm almost your height but I'm longer torso.
And yes bundle up! That wind is wicked! We are at a wind chill of 0 right now and tonight is going to be worse with temps dropping into the negatives.

First up, my metallic (not quite gold, not quite pewter?) 3/4 sleeve, leather Theory jacket from maybe 6 years ago. It's very cropped, which makes it not the easiest thing to work with, but I think it's working well with a longer top or sweater with not too much volume.

This Zara sweater I purchased before the holidays is magical. The subtle metallic fleck and the black in it blend so well with my wardrobe. I'm so glad I got it. I discovered last night that it goes well with a lot of the jackets and vests I have not been wearing. Combining a current, trendy-ish item with an older piece that has lost some of its novelty is a great way to revive a wardrobe!

It's really cold here today. I started to wear this with my old Frye boots (pic 2) because the tones of the boots and jacket match, but my Ugg Finney moto boots have that fleece inner lining, which makes them warmer. So pic 1 is the final outfit. Pic 5 is bundled up for the outdoors -- with wind chill it's 10 degrees here. Brrr!
