I was going to tell you to try this aubergine silk velvet from Emerson Fry, since silk velvet has all the nice drape. <http://emersonfry.com/collecti.....-aubergine> But, it looks like it may be unavailable -- I am not up to speed on their new pre-order business model.

Drat. That is such a shame. It looks way too stiff. You are doing the right thing to send back.

I do think the pink will look amazing on you. I'm sending mine back because I find the fabric and cut not quite right for me (along with the buttons). At least I hope I'm sending back. I may have missed the window. Sigh...

I love the jacket, but not the buttons. If you change them, and I suggest that you do, keep in mind that metal buttons cut the thread and then fall off. It's happened to me before. If you use metal buttons, you'll have to sew them on with the right type of thread.

Yes, I see what you mean, but I love the idea of a velvet blazer for you. I think the pink will be great, I hope it works out well for you. It looks like a gorgeous color.

Yes, I think it's too thick and stiff looking. Darn!
Glad you found the pink one more to your liking.

Why do they do this with buttons these days? WHBM is even worse --- their shiny metallic buttons are just painted plastic!

I think a velvet blazer needs to either be more stiff than yours -- absolutely tailored to perfection, or deliciously soft. And I much prefer the feel of wearing the soft, drapey sort.

I think we're just seeing the beginning trickle of the velvet trend. I've started searching for a perfect piece, too!

I have been on the lookout for a velvet blazer to add to my wardrobe. I tried the gorgeous but $$$ Frame version on and loved it but not the price. After seeing earlier posts about the pink J.Crew velvet blazer I decided to order the pewter version. It was backorderd for a week or so but finally came yesterday. I was really disappointed. It is almost like outerwear, very thick and stiff (I think the lining was cotton which added to the stiffness). The gold buttons were weird with the pewter fabric and very cheap. Please forgive the photos (end of day and not styled, just a try on). I brought it back to the store immediately. While there I spied Angie & Suz's (failed) pink blazer and fell in love. It is on hold while I go back and retread their posts on why it didn't work for them (but maybe for me!).
