I haven't seen the other stuff in person, but I wanted to put in a good word for the drapey drawstring pants. I LOVE them, and bought two pairs- navy and black. They're going to be my go-to pants for spring. I've already worn the black ones three times. They're perfect for a body with slim hips and thighs but not a defined waist. I had to size way down, but then didn't need any alterations, which is unusual for me. The little tapered cuff somehow makes the length work well, IMO. (Angie might disagree! )

I'm going to the Isle of Banishment with Viva. I don't have straight legs and a flare at the bottom of the crop sometimes is all that keeps me from having a turkey drumstick leg. That flare saves me.

I saw those Eastwoods yesterday online, I like them, but doubt I could pull them off.

Above the knee mini. Longer than their straight minis, but still mini. With the flared skirt it feels young to me. But, a cool scuba like material. And if you wear minis and/or are shorter or younger than I am, might be worth a try.
I tried on those track pants and am still tempted by them. I love the drapery narrow leg and the little cuffed ankle. I am not a fan of elastic waist which is why I didn't pounce (it's been keeping me from track pants in general) - they feel supremely unflattering to me. But I may try these again. Both the 4 and the 6 worked, not surprisingly the 6 had more slouch.
Thanks for not banishing me. I hate running counter to Angie's wisdom and I can be quite stubborn, but I came into YLF loving my ankle pants and I'm going to have a hard time changing how I wear them now!

I'm not banishing anyone! I am far from an authority on cropped pants... Not only am I confused about what works and why, but I rarely have the weather to wear them. And I am not the body type for them either. Gaylene and others, I would love to see pictures!

Viva, how short is the skirt?

The track pants are called "drapey drawstring" - they look a lot like the Leiths. First pic below.

Also pics of a look I love with distressed jeans and blazer, and the twisted seam jeans styled.

Una, I can't see the skirt from your link but am pretty sure I saw it in the store -- very cute, very short. Not for me.

On those pants....man, this is just such a sore spot for me. JCrew has been marketing this style for several years. And I have been wearing them. And I love them. And I love them with heels. I don't want every cropped pant to hug my calf, and I am not sold on the idea that crops need to be tapered. There: I said it, and now you can banish me!

It's a cycle, Una. Take whatever is most reviled and mocked and it's surely on its way back in in a couple of years. :D Carrot pants, mom jeans, shoulder pads, nude hose, cropped flared capris. I always look to this to see what I'm most interested in considering.

I love the J Crew catalog more than the actual clothing most times.

I have a number of cropped linen flares so I'll be joint Team Frodo this summer. Hopefully minus the hairy toes.

I'm laughing at the comments about those cropped pants because a pair are residing in my closet at this very moment!

I'll admit that I bought them with the intention of tapering them, but, when I put them on, my husband loved them--and he isn't normally that keen on the whole cropped pant vibe. Not trusting his taste, I checked with my sister (my harshest critic, as sisters are wont to be) and a fashionable DIL who keeps me on my toes. Universal agreement with my DH!

But, I think it's a few things that make these pants flattering on my muscular, short legs: first, the pant leg is wide enough to skim my calf without any stretching or distorting so the leg hangs straight; second, the length on my short leg hits just a bit above my ankle bone; third, the pant has a higher rise than some of the other crops I've tried on; and, finally, my footwear of choice is a 1-1/2 inch heeled sandal with a taupey snakeskin toe and ankle band connected with a strip of black suede that elongates the whole leg line. The result is flattering and elongating; tapering would look odd, not to mention the sausage-casing effect, and shortening would cut my leg at a very unflattering length.

So thank you to J Crew for making "Frodo" pants that work for a not-so slender, shorter leg. Just goes to show that one person's fashion disaster is another's fashion miracle. And now I can sport these pants thinking of my favorite set of books thanks to Joy and Elisabeth!

The capris seem an unfortunate length, especially flared. LOL@ Frodo effect.
I may have to try them with the thought of hemming them to knee length for city shorts.

Yep, those capris are exhibit one for the Frodo effect. And the jeans have a nice shape, but they look slightly acid wash to me (bad 80s flashbacks) and the twisted side seam would make me CRAZY. It looks unintentional.

J Crew mostly hasn't worked on me for years. In the fall I got a linen graphic tee from there which I loved to distraction, but it sprang a hole in less than two months. Mostly I am frustrated by them and amazed that their clothes seem to look so good on some others!

New j. crew catalog... Lots to love, like silky track pant styles and this neon fluted skirt:

And these jeans, which look much cooler in the catalog:

https://www.jcrew.com/womens_s.....38;Nloc=en
