Thanks for your input, o Wise Ones of YLF. :)

It does make sense not to have two pairs with raw hems (except I would leave one at our city apartment, where my current wardrobe is bare bones.)

I received and returned these - they were enormous. I usually wear a 28 in JCrews toothpick, but could have taken a 26 in these. There was so much fabric. I'm 5'4" and did not feel good with the serious wide legs. Maybe if they were a lighter weight I would have tried a smaller size. Can't wait to see them styled beautifully by you all!

Mine are due to arrive any day and if they fit and I keep, I intend to hem them. I have to hem everything, so this is nothing new. I have a pair of raw edged culotte jeans so these are going to be my "dressier" alternative.

My question would be do you want two pairs of similar jeans, both with hacked hems? I like that the Rayner trouser jeans are a bit more "dressy". But then, I want to wear mine to work, and have faded raw hemmed culottes for more casual wear.

If I remember correctly (my smaller size is on it's way, the larger have been returned), the hem would be very easy to have shortened "properly" if you wanted a finished hem.

Yesterday two pairs of the Rayner trouser jeans were delivered to me, in two different sizes.

The smaller ones fit nicely but are of course a little too long on me.

What do you think -- could these jeans be hacked by merely cutting the bottoms and letting the hem go raw?

I have these and cut a couple inches off the bottom, but they are a much lighter-weight denim.
