Hope you will manage to find some comfortable boots and closed shoes. I have learned to buy my boots so roomy that they allow me to keep a woolen sole inside them and to wear at least a pair of thin wool socks and, if needed, also a thicker pair of wool socks AND still be able to move my toes--all this adds to the comfort. By the way, I love wearing my Birks as home shoes in the colder months.
