Michelle - everyone has given great descriptions, but I just wanted to add that I saw the Pleonie print that Joy described - the abstract pink and black floral. I found it very striking and would have loved it. You might want to get Marianna and/or Angie's thoughts on that print if you're still hesitant about the polka dot print.

BTW, that scarf you picked is super gorgeous and I LOVE that it has the tapered ends for a different look. Their model is wearing it just around her neck and draped in front and it looks pretty darn nice!

Okay, I'm back. :)

I vote get all these items and get the sweater in both black and grape! I bought a similar sweater and I got it in two colors and I'm thrilled. Super versatile and feels great on. You will get sooo much use out of this piece.

The houndstooth skirt isn't the same fabric as the seamed skirt... it's thinner and not lined (if I remember correctly). It's basically a ponte knit. I really like this skirt! Definitely get. Would look great with a crisp white button-down and red pumps!

I tried on the circle print blouse and didn't love it on me (found it too wide, but it might have been the wrong size because Encore tops are usually too big for me)... but it's SOOOO fabulous. So pretty. You have to try it. I think it will be perfect on you.

Do you need jeans? I got the Modern Flare NYDJ from Encore and they fit so amazingly well. You should get these. You will love them. Wear them with the dolman sleeve sweater, and the pendant necklace. Perfect 70s inspired outfit. This is what I wore to work on Saturday (we can wear jeans to work on Sat!!!) and I felt fab.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/no.....ltback=477

Ps: The model in the jeans pic is wearing the circle print blouse too! You have to get it.

Oh! I thought that you also bought the black Halogen sweater at last years NAS. Then go for the black here. Follow your nose, Michelle :)

Yup. Get the polka dot blouse. Be-Jing wears cool colours and she rocks this blouse.

I don't think that the H/tooth skirt is the same fabric as the seamed Halogen skirt. But Marianna will know for sure.

These ECCO boots may be worth a look if your calves are about 15-16 inches.
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ec.....ltback=127
I just ordered these boots in brown because I have a pair from last year in black that I love and they are so comfortable. The top and ankle buckles can be adjusted and I have three holes added to tighten them. Last year the Hobarts were shown for large calves (16") and I'd never have tried them if it weren't for the SA. They run quite large. I take an 8 in boots and the size 37 or 6-6.5 fits nicely.
These look like a classic riding boot but are not as sleek as the acquitalia boots. They have a narrow strap with a buckle at the top of the shaft and two short straps with buckles, one above the other, at the ankle just on the outside. This helps adjust ankle snugness. Once adjusted, the straps can be left alone because the side zipper makes them easy to take on and off.

Michelle, I typed a long reply with descriptions earlier and lost it. I wanted to tell you that the Pleione blouse seems to have three versions available. The polkadot is a geometric print as described. The bird print is smallish flying bird shapes in cream on black and is shown with black pants. There is a third version that made me think of you. It's an abstract floral print of light and dark pink on black and is shown worn with black pants. The floral is not sweet but quite abstract to almost look like an animal print. It says it's sheer enough to need a layer underneath, probably black.
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/pl.....ltback=254
I was in this department today looking for a gift and saw the houndstooth skirt. It is not nearly as heavy a fabric as the Halogen seamed pencil skirt but still seems to be a pretty good weight. The cowel neck in black would go well with it.

Thank you so much, ladies! Great descriptions, one and all!
Ok, this tweed cape sounds like a go. :)
Angie, I didn't buy any sweaters at all last year, and now that I think about it I don't think I own a black sweater at all. Do you still stand by the grape or should I follow my nose and buy the black?
The circle print blouse doesn't sound like my colours, especially with the orange and brown, but I do love the sound of the pattern itself. Y'all still think I should get it anyway? I do badly want to accumulate more woven blouses.
The scarf sounds so fun. Such luck that I stumbled on it!
Question about the houndstooth skirt: is it the same fabric as the brilliant seamed skirt of last year?

I would give my left arm to find the equivalent of the acquitalia boots in my treetrunk calf/snowshoe foot width, but it's not to be. I'll focus the boot/bootie hunt closer to home.

Such great descriptions from the ladies :)

Okay! Here is my 2 cents - but Marianna MUST weigh in too. After all, she works in this Nordies department:)

1. The Cape is my favourite item on this list. It's retro, new for your style, and you overheat fast. A winning combination in the grey tweed.

2. The blouse print is a form of polka dot. I think you will love it.

3. Get the grape. You bought the black last year I think?

4. LOVE the idea of the hounds tooth pencil skirt. You have plenty of plain tops to go with this look. Wear it with your denim and moto jacket too.

5. This scarf should have gone on my top picks list. The red is perfect with your red coat.

Hope that helps!

Just some FYIs on sizing. I'm on the small side of 1X for tops and can sometimes wear an XL. The cape in a 1X was way too big on me, so size on the small side.

Like Briar, I bought the Sejour tweed skirt, but I liked the houndstooth more than she did. A friend of mine bought the houndstooth and it looks great on her. I find these ran true to size.

Necklace:
Beeing busty, I dont think that I would wear this necklace, since it seems to be quite long (it ends near the bellybutton of the model) with a heavy looking pendant (like a very long pyramid with a very small basis). Usually long necklaces like these tend to "dangle" in front of me and I try to avoid them. My bust is not an architectural detail (aka balcony).

Scarf:
the scarf looks like a polka-dot scarf and an animal-print scarf side by side in one item. the patterns do not mingle. I think the leopard print looks fab, and there is plenty of room between the thumb nail sized dots on the other side. The rusty red and black dots are grouped together in irregular groups of two or three and scattered around rather then regularly arranged. The color between the dots is more off-white.
The model has put the scarf put around her neck so that the crinkles fall down vertically. The dots and the animal print are then side by side on both sides of her neck (NOT: dots left and print right)

The other ladies are doing an excellent job. The Houndstooth might work with a very subtle pattern in a jacket or coat. With the polka-dot leopard scarf, it is like a subtle-deconstructed leopard print. Even in the red, this scarf is pretty neutral. It has a cream background and the print is in black and a deep brownish red. The mulled grape Dolman top is a mid-tone purple. It is a true grape, but slightly muted-heathered, so a bit dirty, let's say, as opposed to a clean color. I think it would probably suit you. These all look like very promising picks to me.

Houndstooth skirt: the pattern is quite large, I count 3,5 black/grey combinations in the length of the hand of the model. Or 3 vertical and 1 horzontal pattern fit under her thumb. It is black and gray as you suspected. A nice shade of grey, not too much contrast.

Tweed cape: That is a beautiful cape. The tweed is a combination of black and a light colour, it looks like grey in the same tone as the 4 silver coloured buttons. The buttons are round with a stripey relief. They run from the V-neck (the collar is like in a jacket) till just under the elastizised waist.
The waist has two rows of elastic, which I think is more flattering than just one row.
From the picture I can't figure out how the construction is between the body and the arms. It looks like it is a round piece of fabric, but how did they make the body with elasticized waist?I hope someone can take a look & feel for you to explain how this is constructed.

Pleione blouse:
The pattern is of wildly scattered cirles of about the same diameter as the distance between the two knuckles in the fingers of the model. Most of them are nude or pink, some of them orange and brown. There are also some shapes thrown in the pattern of the shape you get when you cut circles and have leftover 'pointy squares' or lunar-like shapes. My English is not good enough to describe the back ground colour, it is a neutral.
The tie is about as wide as the lenght of the thumb of the model. It runs till the bottom hem of the blouse, which ends at the widest part of the hips of the model. The arms are 3/4 and are elasticized.
The other pattern is a black blouse with little bird silhouettes. The kind they make as stickers to prevent birds from flying into glas. From a distance they look like V's, but there is some wing detail, I like them. They are a bit longer than the nails of the model, but thinner.

The tweed cape, though described as black, gives off a dark charcoal grey heather look with it's mixture of black and white threads. It is really nice and I think with the fitted waist you will really like it as a fall/winter topper.

The neck of the Dolman sweater is not very drapey. It is drapey under the arms. The marled grape color is mid range purple, a little darker than lilac and I think this or the black would be a good choice. This reminds me of the Halogen back button blouse which I thought would not be figure flattering, but it skims the body vs. being really baggy.

I saw the Pleione blouse in the store and passed on it because the pattern had muted warm tones. However, the styling of this top in Angie's blog with Bei-Jing was killer and helped me think about out of the box color pairings. She had the blouse paired with black leather skirt, black belt, red shoes and red lips which showed that a cooler toned skin person can absolutely make this work. From your previous posts, I think you look most radiant in vivid colors and look great in black, but you can make this top work if you rock the bold lips and accessories. It has a shallow v-neckline and the bow is thin and unobtrusive. It has a romantic feel. The sleeves do not appear overly billowy and they come midway down between elbow and wrist.

I tried the knit top version of the houndstooth skirt and did not like the feel of the material. It was kind of scratchy. The pattern is large, bold houndstooth. I'm iffy on this one since it's a memorable pattern and I didn't love the quality. I prefer the Sejour tweed which has black and brown and possibly a little blue thread http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/se.....us/3171007

The chain of the necklace is a series of large diamond shape links. The pendant appears to be a three dimensional triangle. Several of the members have this so they might be able to describe with more precision. It is updated and I vote "yes".

The red in the scarf appears to be a brick red against off-white background with leopard. Not ridiculous at all. I can see this pulling together outfits with blacks or browns.

Ok ladies, it's time for me to get my act together and determine what, if any, NAS purchases I'm going to make. For this process, I put out my annual call for help!! Would you be so kind as to describe the items below in more detail? I have specific questions for all of them. I'd also be very interested in general comments on which ones you think suit me best. I have to be pretty selective this year, so the list is shorter than in the past and I'm willing to whittle it down even more.

Tweed cape: Angie's post of last week peaked my interest, and the fact that this one has waist definition certainly appeals to me. More detail on the closure and arms, as well as the look of the tweed, would be most welcome.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/st.....4ZPqvwhu2A

Pleione blouse: Angie raves about this piece, but the description online gives me no clue as to why. What, precisely, does a "pink nude multicircle print" look like? What's the neckline on this, and how big is the tie? How about sleeve length and overall silhouette? I saw that this also came in a pattern called "black/ivory birds." What do you think would work best for me?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/pl.....ZverjOHKgg

Dolman sleeve sweater: I'm interested in this as a basic for my autumn/winter wardrobe. How huge are the sleeves on this, and how drapy is the neckline? I'm actually leaning toward the black in this, but am curious enough about "mulled grape" to ask for a description of that colour too.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/se.....i6Nim2fX9A

Houndstooth skirt: I only have one pencil skirt at the moment, and the addition of another one sounds appealing. How big is the pattern? Is it the sort that would preclude pattern mixing for someone who has to tread carefully in such matters? I assume the description of "black and grey combo" is self-explanatory here?
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/se.....e1Jbq5J7lw

Geometric pendant: Can't picture this one at all. Could someone please step in and tell me what the pendant itself is like? Also, hematite plating is silver in colour, right? If so that's likely the one I'd go for. I always wish I could find a mixed metallic necklace!
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/no.....35asCmz1QA

Scarf: I love silk scarves and came across this one. The pattern sounds like it could either be really cool or completely ridiculous. Thoughts? How's the red?
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/no.....tback=1441

Many thanks for your help, ladies!
