I also managed to find a trench style coat which doesn't look like gear from the same outdoorsy shop which is properly waterproof. I had a cheaper one from a 'fashion' shop which seemed to absorb water! i got soaked. I still have a very much Seattle wardrobe, and not an Austin one. It takes time to re-think your wardrobe like that. I think it's okay if done intentionally and if you have color somewhere in your outfit. And if it rains there a lot, you may consider getting a second pair of print or colored rain boots.
