He was constantly amazed in the Tampa store that when he's buying Canali shirts and Zegna Quindici ties (not $20 items) that nobody *ever* followed up, sent e-mail, etc. Some of it may have been turnover, but overall he got the impression that it just wasn't worth their time. We lived 2 1/2 hours roundtrip drive from the store, so 'dropping in' casually wasn't a thing - we had to schedule to get there on his one day off, Sunday, before 6, etc. Anyway, more than an aggressive 'buy this now!' approach (the BF is a car man by trade after all, he knows all those tricks lol) genuinely caring enough to offer the customer what they are asking for makes such a better impression. Just don't let them intimidate you. I'm very quiet and non-aggressive but I learned that you have to make it clear from the START that they cannot take advantage of you or walk all over you.</p> <p>That said, you're going to have a lot of fun and I see you moving up the ladder quickly! Get to know the personal stylist manager and start dropping hints that you'd like to be a stylist eventually. Also keep an eye out for FNL (future Nordstrom leader) classes. I never went through them, but I wish I had.</p> <p>Also, Nordstrom managers are very helpful. If you ever want to transfer or do something else, they're usually very supportive. It's an awesome pet store that finds homes for shelter animals run by a non profit organization. Don't be worried that the other gals on the team are "seasoned" and "aggressive." You can build a great client base and do very well by just being your very helpful, wonderful self. I shop a lot and I worked for many years as a SA. The things that I love in a SA aren't that they are seasoned or aggressive. It is that they are interested, they hear what I am telling them, and they follow through. I return again and again to my favorite SAs. </p> <p>I've been hooked up with a personal shopper at Nordstrom twice. You know what? After the first meeting, they haven't contacted me again. And I bought a pretty decent amount each time. I'm pleasant and friendly always without exception (especially since I've been on their side of things). I hang up my clothes in the dressing room. I don't dismiss things outright. I like to shop. A lot. That all leaves me to think that the thing is that they aren't really all that interested or motivated. If you apply your drive, your charm and your incredible knowledge of style, you are going to be a star in no time. I just know it.
