Ellen, I know you'll enjoy your leather jacket. If you get one with wool knitted parts anywhere, be sure to be diligent in protecting it from moths. I found this out the hard way years ago and have been reluctant to commit to leather with knit since.

Great Ellen that you found one you like even better. You have great taste and I was going to say thumbs up on the first choice.

Thank you all so much. I checked out the jacket and the knit parts were actually on the removable liner, not the jacket itself! Perfect... but they didn't have my size. However, I found one I like even better - more classic and streamlined, even, but has pockets. Love it. No photo online but I'll try to post one soon.

Thanks again!!!

My only problems with knit collars/cuffs has been if they snag, pill, or look tatty while the rest of the jacket is still fine. . . so, I'd recommend you check the fabric content and apparent quality of the knit parts.

This jacket has a nice classic style to it, and should look stylish for many years

Me likey.... As biscuit said, the kniting is not as evident so I don't see it as being dated anytime soon.

Oh, thank you both so much for the input! I do err much more frequently to the casual side, so that is a fit for me. I really appreciate your thoughts!

Michelle, you are Canadian? Nice to 'meet' you! I'm in Ottawa... and heading out to a Danier location shortly.

I think it looks really sharp and will be very versatile for you....as long as you're not trying for a very dressy look. I think the knit area on this is not overwhelming, dating it quickly. Knit goes in and out fairly often, but its not a main component of this look, so I think you'd get a great deal of use from it. Knit borders seems to hold up really well....I'd go for it!

Hello Ellen, my fellow Canuk and Danier shopper! :)
I can't comment specifically on the look of the jacket, but imo the knit components could limit the versatility of the jacket somewhat and make it harder to use in smarter ensembles. If your lifestyle errs on the casual side of smart casual and you don't foresee needing a leather topper outside of that context, then the knit components will be just fine.
Please apply multiple grains of salt here!

Hi everyone,

It's been ages since I've been on the forum, though I read the blog every day! I've been rather busy with a baby and toddler and tend to read blogs while holding the baby (hence the harder time typing!).

Anyway, I was hoping to get some advice from you all. I'm buying a leather jacket this fall and would like to get one that will last me for a long time. I like fairly classic shapes, but somewhat casual (fitting my casual/smart casual life - I'm usually in jeans).

I'm considering this jacket (http://www.danier.com/104030410-P3606.aspx?lang=en) in charcoal. I want grey and this cut looks very much like the style I"m going for. I like pocket detail.

Two questions: First, how well do knit collars and cuffs hold up? I don't want them to wear out quickly so I'm unable to wear the jacket. Second, thoughts on the style longevity of this look?

I appreciate all your input so much! Thank you
