I maybe should say heavy. Polyester I get, it can be fabricated a lot of ways. This did not have the lively dressiness needed from " taffeta". It's funny because it fits a lot like what's shown on the model, but just very droopy. Wonder how they styled it to make it look more twirly! I would have tried ironing( no starch!) but decided the fabric would never make me happy.
Oh well-- at least I think I'll " know it when I see it"
And also, I was tempted by Angie's find of dressy track pants, but shy away from the ankle cuffs, which tend to get
hung up on my legs from sitting to standing. But a HEWI is some kind of dressy pant that would stay in style for a few years.

I saw some crazy-stiff skirts in a store recently - I don't understand how they could be worn, they were almost like cardboard. NOT FESTIVE!

I hear you on trying in store. Easier to get sizing right, easier to assess quality and fabric. Dressiness seems to really get lost in online photos sometimes. AT pants fit me really well too!

Gail, that's a great festive skirt; alas too short for me!

Aida, something else will turn up. I don't regret trying things that look like they may fit and work well, as I've learned I need to pounce on possibilities as they turn up rather than make a mad shopping dash under pressure, but wish I could just check them out IRL and go yay/nay right in store. Now no AT store in town, but still the brand tends to fit (pants and skirts especially) often enough that I will try online.

That's too bad Unfrumped, but I agree this type of skirt could be great with separates for event wear. I'm sure there's another fab black skirt out there for you! Plus black is easier to find than other colors, at least.

(Gail here is the Find for your boiled wool skirt Lovely color! )

I saw this skirt today and I agree the fabric was just not luxurious enough.
I purchased this whilst in there,
http://www.anntaylor.com/boile.....;colorExpl...
It is a lovely tomato red and I can see me wearing it around the holidays. I think it would look nice with cream and I also have a lovely navy silk blouse.I don't know how to do finds properly or I would post the pic, sorry ;(

I need to just stop ordering from AT for awhile because I'm striking out. At least I am returning everything.

I was trying to pick just items that might change the wardrobe landscape or fill a hole.

I tried this taffeta skirt to see if it would be a versatile, classic dressy capsule item, and high-waisted items are harder to come by. It reminded me a bit of the Halogen striped taffeta-type skirt that several Fabbers have, with maybe a better fit for me. Dressy separates are a more reasonable goal for me since dress fit remains something of a HEWI, plus separates can dress up or down a bit. (Was thinking it might go with the BR metallic tuxedo jacket, but that so far isn't working out).

The waist fit and length were good, and it had pockets, but the fabrication was just too heavy. A bit of body or crinkle I was expecting, but it just was not luxe or dressy/delicate enough.
