Hi, PS. I have a daughter with what sounds like exactly your body type, so I wanted to tell you about the party dress she found on sale recently at BCBG, because it was madly flattering on her, and something similar might be just the ticket for you. As I recall (unfortunately I can't find the exact dress online for a photo, though the one called "Delphine" is very close) the dress is knee-length, dark blue jacquard, with a rounded square neckline softened by organza edging, straps about 1.5" wide, fitted bodice with shaping darts, a cut-out back (not too revealing), and a skirt released at the hip into wide soft pleats. The width at the skirt's hem beautifully balances my daughter's broad shoulders and narrower hips, the neckline is modest and flattering, and the cut of the bodice visually narrows her waist. We were lucky to find it in a 14 at a nearby BCBG outlet, and it fit perfectly; my daughter was thrilled. Structured dresses like this can be hard to find, but that bit of structure makes all the difference! I hope you find a wonderful dress for your sister's wedding.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That is a huge accomplishment that represents a lot of work. Well done!

I think Joy's points are really good ones. Also, since you are a musician and not an attendant, I think you could wear whatever color suits you best. If that's black, then so be it! That said, I would consider something other than denim, unless you have your heart set on it.

What about something like this with your boots?
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ad.....863115?ori

I agree with Joy's 3 points, and also, because you're choosing denim and black cowboy boots it sounds like you might be a little more synched with the men's outfits than the women's. I have two children, both daughters, and when the oldest got married the youngest chose her dress independently of everyone else because her role was unique.
If you are the musician/soloist/pianist (talented!!) for the wedding and especially if you're the only sibling or only sister I really think it's appropriate that you be dressed differently from the rest of the bridal party, while still respecting your sisters preferences and color choices. Some black is fine but maybe some white or cobalt near your face to keep the focus upwards?
Your commitment to taking care of yourself is just amazing, 83 lbs! I'm hoping you'll consider posting a picture because I'm wondering what your hair color and style is, etc.

What you describe sounds like it will work for your figure. When I read your post the first time, I missed the IT reference and only saw Apple. This made me think of empire waists, and ruching/drapes over the mid-torso. Let us know what you decide.

Ok. Haha. I have to go off and think about it. Because - and this tells you everything - I thought we were talking about the marriage of an IT person who works at Apple...

Will you have the dress custom made?

I am a rectangle with IT and Apple tendencies. I would be concerned that
1: denim when pleated may stand out more than you want
2. A dropped waist might put a horizontal line across the apple parts
3. A cobalt blue line might even emphasize it more, drawing the eye.
Of course, it could look great with none of these problems.
I like dresses with a fairly high neckline that are somewhat fitted at the bust and then flare out starting just above the waist. Or you might consider a two piece dress with black denim skirt and maybe a cobalt top with some draping for balance and camouflage.
Do you have a picture of the dress that you are thinking of? That would be helpful. The wedding sounds like fun.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to be here and I just know your input is going to be so valuable to me! I am an inverted triangle with the waist of an apple. I've lost and kept off 83 lbs but have 50 more to go. I am in a wedding in May and am the sister of the bride. I am not in the wedding but will be the musician/soloist/pianist for the wedding and will be in family photos. The wedding is an outdoor barn-style wedding wherein the groom and his men will be wearing new dark blue denim jeans, long sleeve black dress shirts and black cowboy boots. The bride's attendants will be wearing a black dress of some sort (still shopping). Being an Inverted Triangle with Apple tendencies, I was thinking of a drop-waisted dress with a pleated hem (soft pleats for volume) in a soft black denim and with a slender V-Neck and 3/4 length sleeves. Her accessory color is cobalt blue and so I was thinking of a cobalt blue banding at the seam between the dropped waist and the skirt part of the dress. I am only 5'5" to 5'6" and so I don't want it too short but not too long either. I am choosing to wear black cowboy boots (possibly with cobalt blue stitching). I have broad squared shoulders and no waist at all (even when at ideal weight, my rib cage is so broad, very little definition. When at my best, I feel like an amazon woman, but firm. My legs are my best attribute and my bust, though thick and broad, has very little "boob", even tho I can get the fat to fit into a 36 C bra pretty well - as I said, mostly fat! What is your opinion?
