Spring is hard - ours is always unpredictable!!

But I suspect most of you living on large continents would say our entire year is transitional weather with rare days over 30 degrees C and rare days below zero degrees C.

Our spring weather has been all over the spectrum this year. I've worn fleeces one day and shorts the next. Normally once I pull out shorts I don't look back until mid fall, but this year, I've needed a little bit of everything!

Same here! Had a lot of cool nights and then of course warmed during day so maybe had to fling off a jackets. But could wear more of my transition - weight pants, more “ interesting “ outfits. Had had to go pull out some extra LS tops from the off-season closet because I needed them to make some outfits I wanted to keep wearing while I could. Then 2 days ago boom, humid & warm. NOT hot summer yet of course, but still.
So, I relate to “ just had gotten in my groove”, as I wore some outfits on repeat, to different occasions, and enjoyed having figured them out plus felling able to get dressed quickly & no stress.

Because I do somewhat unfortunately have too many clothes to keep in my main closet year- round, I do store off-season items, some in spare closet — hanging items, not all precious but I hang nicer T’s —plus some in totes, for sweats, fleece, lounge. These are not too hard to get to, hanging items especially so hanging includes more transitional items for convenience, but I try to avoid moving them to the off-areas until I’m pretty sure I won’t wear until the next “ season”. Plus, I tried to develop a wardrobe concept in which there’s a clean swap between “ active space” and off- loaded storage, and serve as a “ container concept” limit . For example, I have a container for gardening clothes and a drawer for same, but they are either SS or FW and just flip.

So I have a concept of asking myself, “ do I think this is the last time I will wear this until …” , so I can do the flip.
I’m not always right of course!

The weather is all we talk about here right now . It is ridiculously cold here today …..9C , and I can count the number of sunny warmish days we’ve had since end of March on one hand . I also have too many transitional weather pieces , but at least I’m getting to wear them . It’s actually pretty depressing this year - and I hope it’s not a sign of climate change .

Ugh. I remember this pattern from when I lived in Ontario. Apart from gym gear, I didn't own any closed shoes for years -- only boots/ booties, and sandals. Because that was all I needed apart from maybe two days a year!

I sympathise. It is really hard to get your head around the abrupt switch and can take a few weeks to adjust.

Still in winter temperatures here in Ireland with lots of rain wind and hail. It’s cold most days. This is nothing new here the spring is usually an occasional dry day and summer days are highly elusive. Sometimes I think we are the only country not affected by global warming as our weather is like this all the time.

Lise, I can really relate. We were in the 90s last week. Then we had a trace of snow yesterday. In between, we had a day or two of gorgeous, perfect weather. I was still trying to remember how I dressed for hot weather when suddenly it’s freezing!

The struggle is real. Here it is 85F today, 65 tomorrow. It seems like I have to have my entire wardrobe on hand. But I do like a few hot days, then some cool relief, then warm again. Kind of easing into a Chicago summer, when my clothing choices will get boring really fast.

I have some things that are only right a few days each year (my suede jacket is a perfect example). On the plus side, they will last forever!

I also usually have only a couple of weeks of transition weather, but it seems a bit more wild this year. I was wearing linen pants or shorts a couple of weeks ago, but today had to dig into the drawer for a pair of corduroys... then added boots, a light puffer jacket, and a beanie! I don't mind though- I'm glad we didn't go straight into high summer. I live in Salt Lake City so any tiny bit of rain (like today) slightly alleviates the collective ecological anxiety; we are in a severe drought.

I'm like Janet, on the east coast but further south, and I always over-buy for transition seasons that are barely a blip. A few days in the 70s last week but now into the 90s. Why do I keep buying all these lighter weight long sleeve tops?! Apparently they are the easiest things for me to buy and I like them, so I keep forgetting! My area is cool until it's crazy hot and crazy hot until it's cold. Transition seasons are wonderful but sadly much too short!

I hear you, Lise! We had a cooler spring than usual, which made me very happy. Just a few days of over-80 temps, and cool nights, suitable for sleeping with windows open! But today it begins. Highs of 90+ the next three days, and I will start running the AC. Blech.

I have too many clothes for the transitional seasons, for sure. But I am trying to work items into combinations I haven’t tried before to get more wear out of pieces I like.

I’m also facing facts that I’m dressing more casually now than I used to. I like wearing something I can take an impromptu walk in, or I don’t mind getting dog hair on it, and my shoe selections are made with comfort and activity in mind. I am eschewing anything constricting or tight.

I am sure I could stand a closet edit. I’ve thought about it lately but have not been able to muster up the motivation. Problem is, I truly *like* a lot of what I have, there just aren’t enough days in a year to wear them all repeatedly, and I continue to be tempted by new things!

Spring weather in Seattle is extremely variable. Usually EVERYTHING - Winter, Spring, and a bit of Summer for three months!

We've had day time highs of 10C to 26C since March, and my style reflects it. And it can be 6C in the morning. Rain, wind, hail, sunshine, clouds. Temperature varies throughout the day.

Generally, we're having a wonderful Spring! Mostly transitional weather. Always toppers, sleeves, and closed shoes. LAYERS! To answer your question - no. We make excellent use of transitional items in the PNW of the US. Even though our Summers are warm and gorgeous - (25C to 32C and no humidity) - it's seldom even in Summer that you don't wear a lightweight topper in the cool morning. At least I do, because I run cold and live by water. Always colder by the water!

No Summer weather here yet but a continuous alternance of cold, warm, wet, windy, sunny, rain, hail. Sometimes in the same day! Getting dressed in the morning is a lottery.

Our weather was practically the same as yours STAR, very cool for a good portion of April and the start of May and then BAM! Hot weather suddenly arrived, 29 degrees celsius expected tomorrow. I'm scrambling to get my wardrobe sorted for these hotter temps. All my cropped jackets and denim etc... rendered useless to wear when the weather is that hot. Time for cropped pants, sandals. shorts and tees. I don't feel quite as put together in them as I do with my combos for the cooler temps.

Hi Fabbers
I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience this year. Talking about seasonal dressing here. Early Spring, what I call Cold Spring, was more like Winter this year. Only on 4 May I changed to lighter knits, sleeveless puffer vest, etc. now on 18 May it is too warm for even a long sleeve Tee on it's own!
I was just finding my groove, which combos I was enjoying. I haven't even worn many of my Spring clothes and, 'bam', it is Summer clothes required.

I realise I have far too many clothes for this weather window, all of two weeks this year! Anyone else have this situation?
