Angie, Eileen Fisher's clothes are really dowdy, aren't they?

In Israel, there are quite a few designers who target older and/or less svelte clientele: Hagara, Almavika (which is another brand of the same designer as Hagara), Yael Orgad, Kedem Sassoon, to name a few. They all do volume, but most of them also add some really crazy pattern mixing - like polka dots with floral with stripes in the same garment. This, IMO, often results in sort of "crazy cat lady" outfits. Also, Kedem Sassoon specializes in so much volume everywhere that if you are less than 6 feet tall, you will drown in his garments. "Comme if faut" really do have a great taste, don't they? It is just the exorbitant prices that bug me.

In the video, there are several pairs of mother-daugher (or mother-grandmother) in the same outfit styled differently. In the last one, the daughter wears the same skirt as the mother but styled as a strapless dress. It all looks lovely, but I highly doubt there are many teenagers or very young women who wear this look in a real life.

Shevia, I didn't know they had good sales! I guess I am avoiding their stores altogether since I learned how expensive they are I do love their cafe in Tel-Aviv port. And I didn't know they moved their Dizengoff store to Raanana - then it definitely makes sense that the fashion show is in Raanana. Where are consignment stores and thrift stores in Israel? Are they all concentrated in Tel-Aviv? (grrr...)

Hmmm ... I admit that I absolutely love the dress with gathers (elastic?) just below the knee. Will definitely check in July, hopefully it will be on sale.

Angie - with encouraging volume and challenging me to try harem pants (which I have yet to do), you will make a bona fide Israeli lass out of me (the way I dress now, I felt more at home in London than in Israel).

*chuckle* - HannaC, welcome to my world.

Yay! More people who love volume! It’s HOT. Thanks for being in my voluminous corner Maya, along with Tanya, Ana, Inge and Patience. Have I left anyone out?

Anyone can wear volume if it’s in the right place. But there is generally a HUGE mainstream resistance, with my clientele too.

Joy and San, I think Eileen Fisher tries to pull off these types of voluminous alluring looks for older lasses, but unsuccessfully in my not so humble opinion. The Israeli designers have got it down with edge and sass – no frump. The devil is always in the detail. I did think that some of the outfits had too much volume going on, but plenty of them were stunning. That’s a good benchmark, Joy.

Another thanks for posting that video! I love seeing fashions from different countries. Nice use of volume for comfy, smart casual looks. And the informality of the show was really fun

Glad you enjoyed the clip! One of the things that made me post it was the way the little girl and dog joined the show - that is very typical of the informality of the culture here - and the omnipresence of kids! I also loved that they used mother and daughter models.

Hannah you are so funny! I also loved that woman's hair. I would never buy from them during the regular season but they do have very good twice yearly sales (one is coming up in July!). I have also had a lot of luck finding stuff at consignment and thrift shops. I am not sure, but think the clip might be from their Raanana shop. They moved to the port in Tel Aviv from Dizengoff and I don't know if it could be that.

Generally speaking they do seem to market to somewhat older women and their shapes. I have noticed their clothes are forgiving of a lack of waist, but I have never tried to pull off any of the looks in the clip - maybe one day!

Thanks for the video, Shevia! These women are so beautiful, aren't they? Did you see their hair?! Especially the lady with very long curly hair - her hair is simply stunning! I guess it is taken in front of the store at Dizengoff street in Tel-Aviv, right?

I just have one major grumble against this chain: they are unbelievably expensive. Really! Shevia, did you buy anything from them? I never did, and I am curious whether the quality is worth the price at all.

Angie, sorry about the wrong length of pants Israeli women are not yet exposed to the idea of PPL I have to blame your blog - I have that apoplexy every day when I see women around me in pants hemmed way too short Do you know how much willpower I need to refrain from telling them that they should let the hem out?

I'm in your corner Angie. I think volume is especially good for me and other top-heavy ladies, but I find it hard to convince people of this. I guess for me it's easier because I do not have a small waist so I am more open to hiding it, but anyone who is used to spotlighting their waist might have a harder time adjusting. It can be done though. Tanya and you have proven this!

Thanks for the video Shevia. Some of the styles grabbed me immediately while others not so much, but I guess that is to be expected.

I loved watching the video and plan to study some of the looks more. They go by too quickly. Angie, please consider giving us some guidelines for how to wear voluminous pieces that aren't bohemian. It sounds tricky. Some outfits on the video looked cool and flowing but seemed to have volume top and bottom. I'd be lost as to how to pull this off if it is even possible at 5'4" and shrinking.

Great video shevia. Thankyou for sharing. I LOVE the flowy look of this style. It is so alluring. Maybe this is what our local stores are missing. Or I am missing this in our local stores.

Thanks Shevia! I love how the show used women of all ages and sizes. Brilliant.

The models look beautiful because they feel beautiful, AND because they are SO confident (love the pooch and toddler that joined in the show :0). See how well those harem pants work in Israel! Love the leggings too. And as for all the gladiators – they look heavenly. Wish I could wear them every day in Summer.

I am totally in the minority on YLF I know, but I ADORE voluminous pieces that aren't bohemian (which to me, many of these pieces were). SO FAB. I am a huge supporter of sack silhouettes which I know are hard to wear, but on the right body type, one word – KILLER.

I really enjoyed watching the show (even though I had the odd apoplexy when the ankle length pants came on). It brought me back to when I was in Tel Aviv last month. Lovely.

I can't resist posting a link to a youtube clip I just watched. It is from one of my favorite Israeli boutiques: http://www.comme-il-faut.com/. It is pricey but targets "less young" women of all shapes and sizes.

The home page features a youtube video of a recent fashion show. The models are all women who work for the business along with their daughters or, in one case, mother. Somewhere in the middle they match up the mother with her daughter wearing the same dress styled differently.

The clip also displays many of the Israeli themes Angie mentioned on her blog posts. Hope you enjoy!
