Karen, my feet issues are very similar to yours, and thanks to you, Angie and Andrea, I decided to try those Ecco hightops! They are really as comfortable as everybody is saying!
In a local store they only had them in black which I didn't want so I ordered them in coral. The colour makes me very happy! I liked dark green too but coral is perfect for spring. I hope you will have luck also in finding something that fits you and your feet

I have this one on the way in two sizes, hoping it will hold a orthotic. I am still looking for the high tops. I got distracted looking through finds.

I went to the "big city" today to try to find a pair of the Chuck Taylor II or Ecco Soft 7, and no luck. But I confirmed the old Converse All Star style will definitely not work - way too narrow and hard.

I will have to look for the IIs and the Eccos online, so any tips for my typically 6.5D street shoe width?

I've heard converses are very comfy. I would probably do a half size up to make sure they are wide enough and comfy.

Thank Angie - I love the look of both high tops - I've always wanted Converses but could never stand the pain. I will check them out. Specific brand/style recommendations are soo helpful.

The slip ons are very cute too, but for me they tend to be slip offs, especially if wide enough in the toe box. And with my heel issue, adding gripper is dicey.

Andrea H - Foot twin! How the heck do you wear the cute low converse/eccos? Please share your tips! I'm so paranoid about my sensitive heel becoming full blown deformity (never google Haglund's deformity!) that my footwear is turned woefully "functional" over the past 8 years.

Now that I'm trying to dress with a bit more care, I am finding footwear to be a much bigger challenge than even finding petite pants that fit my issues.

Please keep suggestions coming - I may have to kiss a lot of frogs here.

I have maybe-similar foot issues to you (wide forefoot with narrow heels, pump bump on right foot, walk long distances outside daily) though I don't wear orthotics, and those ecco hightops Angie linked are one of my favorite shoes ever. Insanely comfortable and look great on my feet.

These styles run wide, so perhaps try them. Size up half a size or a full size for the orthotic insert.

Angie recently suggested I wear an outfit with a lighter shoe and I realized I don't have any - all black and 1 dark brown.

I have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel, and most often a 6.5W or D, so Men's are too big and Boys are usually poor quality. I wear plastic 3/4 custom orthotics. My shoes have to be very comfortable for walking 2-5 miles in a stretch.

I am looking for a high top to start, because I have a very sensitive right heel/achilles area and have usually wear Merrill clog type shoes to keep it from becoming "pump bump" aka Haglund's deformity. They are comfy but not so versatile for fashion. My Keen Durand hiking boots are my favorite shoes for comfort, and I realized that the high top and straight back keep my heel from rubbing.

I have a brown pair for Vans (Find 4) in the men's/unisex width (I can't wear the Women's Slim style) which seem OK for width and non heel irritation, so I am thinking about these other Vans in finds 1&2. But I would love suggestions on other candidates and best colors for versatile spring and summer use.

The floral Chukka is going back because I need a taller shaft and higher tighter laces at the ankle to keep from irritating my pump bum. So I think chukka boots may be too low. If anyone likes them - they run very small and narrow. Even a 7W was too tight for me.

I would try a low sneaker if I could find one with the right specs. I think I need a very straight back of heel, not one that cups in at the achilles. Or super soft/stretch material there.

Does anyone with truly wide feet own the Converse Chuck II which Angie recommends so highly, and do they hit or rub at the bottom of the achilles?

Thanks for reading this very long post! Karen
