Wow, I really waited too long on this! But then, I didn't know I needed them until after baby was born.

Target is sold out of black and white in my size. Probably the sales.

I will try LL Bean or Peruvian Connection.

Boo! They have had a lot of sales in the last week, so some colors and sizes may reappear before Christmas...

I just realized that you're probably looking for t-shirt weight, not sweaters. Duh. What about any of the finds below, from Target, or LL Bean?

Or J Jill?

http://www.jjill.com/jjillonli.....;ac=search

Or Duluth Trading?

http://women.duluthtrading.com.....53023.aspx

Those Gap t-necks are superb! They are thin which makes them perfect for layering but substantial and not body-con so upper layer is not required unless you need it for the warmth.
I would order a toffee one too but they ALL gone in Tall sizes now.

I "third" the vote of support for the Gap turtlenecks. I ordered them this fall in black and navy. After just a couple months, I'm wondering how I ever managed without them. They are soft and warm, long enough that they look good on their own, and work equally well with jeans, work pants, or skirts. They are also easy to layer over on cold days. So far, they've held up well to washing.

I love Peruvian Connection tees and turtlenecks. Have worn them for years and wish they would bring back their cowl necks.

These are good for layering.

Have you looked at J Jill? They've got some nice sweaters right now.

I also have some Gap turtlenecks that are a couple years old now and have held up well.

I second the Gap turtleneck Angie has suggested above. I actually bought it in that cognac colour just because I had seen it on Angie and admired it so much. It happened to be right there on the rack - one left and in my size - so I scooped it up. I'm not a turtleneck lover at all, as I know it's not my best look, but boy have I actually worn this sweater more than once (which is something I rarely do - lol). It is indeed not scratchy and the neck is loose enough to scrunch comfortably. The fit is loose enough too that I don't feel self conscious about it outlining my body.

I wear a camisole or thermals under them because I like that extra layer for warmth and cozy comfort, Thistle. These t-necks are warm, long and non-scratchy. The sleeves are long enough for my gorilla arms too. I've fitted these t-necks on curvy clients, and they look just fine. I hope they work for you too.

(In fact, I doubled up on the black, and now I have three).

I have not had God luck with GAP in prior years as they were too thin. But if you like these, I will give them a try!

I am looking for a good quality turtleneck that is machine washable, thick enough that if I wear it with a cardi without having to close the cardi for modesty, and that keeps its color reasonably well.

I used to buy them fromTalbots back when they had a smidge of Lycra. Now, they are are 100% Pima cotton and stretch out of shape over my bust. I am thinking I may need Lycra for it to look good as a column of color under a cardi or sweater jacket.

I have tried Lands End and was underwhelmed. The fit wasn't designed for my shape, and they both lost color and got holes in a season.

I am willing to spend a bit on these as they will see a lot of wear under cardis and sweaters all winter long.
