Had to go back and hunt Janets sarong pants!
Those cobalt palazzo pants could fit the bill, and I think they had shorter ones in that brand too. Only like $20 so tempted to try them, but hope the quality isn't dodgy....

THanks kkards! I always feel like other people are not going to be interested in my fashion whims, so it's nice to hear that these types of posts DO in fact interest other people. And, after all, YLF is all about fashion whims! Great ideas, I will check them out.

Suz, love your work "tricksy"...:-). Have done phase 1 of my own piazza pants googlefest...say that one three times fast!

Delurked, good luck finding your own version.

Janet, interesting point. I often wish I could find out who the designer was of a magic garment like that and find out where they work now.

Elpgal, thanks for the update. Things come and go pretty quickly on sites like Zulilly.

I agree with Suz. I can’t wear pleats, but the Zara sarong shorts have just the slightest bit of pleating in a single strategic asymmetric spot that creates a nice drape, not the poufiness that pleated pants often give on the wide-of-hip like myself, because the fabric doesn’t pull across — it hangs free in a “flap” like the edge of a wrap skirt. It’s a really clever and flattering design, and I’m surprised it didn’t catch on more.

I’ve been looking for something similar too. Haven’t found it, in part because I also prefer close to knee, and everything I’ve seen in person is too short on the inseam. I would shorten length as well. Will keep an eye on this thread.

Oooh. Fun idea, Chris!

I love the ones that Janet and I got because they are so tricksy -- they look "skirt-ish" from the front but not the back. And while they have tucks, they don't have full pleats at the front or a gathered waist, which for me would probably rule them out at this stage. (I can wear some pleats, if stitched down or otherwise flat but gathers are another matter.)

I don't have suggestions but I suspect I'm going off on a palazzo pants googlefest. :)

Thanks Elpgal...I too found your link did not work. Modal would be a good fabric choice.

Brooklyn, I tried searching for "palazzo pants" on google and you are so right, so many more options! Great suggestion and thanks! I will definitely look into this. Shortening hems is super easy for me, it's one of the alterations i do myself.

Thanks Janet, I could see this sort of style working on you too. In fact I think you said you have those same sarong shorts Suz posted..

Those are cute, Brooklyn. Elpgal, that link isn’t working for me.

I had a pair something like this decades ago in the early 90s. They were pastel shades of blue and green and cute, but I was also cuter and skinnier back then.

I love the idea of a refined version of these like the ones Brooklyn posted. I have not seen anything like that around (only longer culottes and palazzo styles), but will keep eyes peeled.

I got some last summer in a silk viscose from YOOX. Probably all gone now. The trick for YOOX was to look for palazzo pants (even though they are shorts!) Of course, you could think about buying actual palazzo pants or cropped wide leg pants and having them shortened.

Suz's recent outfit posting here
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....rks-for-me got me thinking that some loose skirt-like flowy shorts night be a great addition to my summer wardrobe. The ones she showed were a few years old so no long available.

I'm looking for something fairly flowy but not voluminous and just above the knee length, (or longer that I can shorten, in a neutral color, preferable dark. I don't want a linen woven or knit, although I might consider a blend that includes a bit of linen.

I did some searches and didn't find much but did find one option at Nordstrom, although it's hard to tell how "loose and flowy" they are. Paperbag shorts might work but the ones I found are all much shorter than I'd like. I do not want the type of sarong shorts that expose a lot of leg like you'd wear over a bathing suit.

Has anyone seen styles like this recently?

- 1st find is Suz's shorts from a few years ago
- 2nd find is the ones i just found at Nordstrom - not sure they are flowy but it's the general style I'm looking for
