Emily, I have the Melissa Frye boots in cognac and they are the most devine boots ever. They were pretty spendy but I can imagine that I will have them forever. The quality is impeccable. The only down side is they are pull on, no zip. They do loosen after a few wears though and are now easy to get on and off. The cognac colour is beautiful and rich.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions.

Tammy, the Tory Burch boots are gorgeous!

K, those are beautiful and just the sort of thing I was looking for. Regarding the back zip, I am sure that I *love* the way it looks, but I honestly hadn't thought about comfort. I will keep that in mind when I am trying boots on - thank you!

Von, thank you for the suggestion - I do love the style of those boots. One thing I have noticed about Frye boots online though is that the brown leathers always seem to look variegated. It is very cool, but not quite what I am after. Were those your Frye's in yesterday's WIW? They look very fab on you.

Diana, good point - I have an athletic 15 - 15.5" calf with slim ankles and my favourite tall boots are 14.5" from the heel to the top of the shaft, though I think I could stand another inch and change. Love the Sam Edelman boots! I will have to see if I can find them in person...

Glory, especially since they added half sizes I am really loving Aldo! Their leather boots and shoes have served me very well with proper care. I'm going to see if I can try #1 in person.

I think I will have to haul my butt out to the Mall this weekend to see what I can see...

Emily the first pair are very nice. I have had such great luck with Aldo this year. Another friend just recently bought a cognac pair from Spring here in Ontario and they were leather - she loves them. Maybe worth a try.

How about these? What are your calf and height requirements?
These have back zips; I like Sam Edelman shoes in general:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sa.....8;contextu

Those Frye Melissa Harness are gorgeous boots! I have the Melissa Button's (in extended I think) because the calves ran very tight. But I LOVE the color on them, and they look very classy, even without buckles and harnesses.

Mine are cognac, and are sleek, like the black ones on the page. I don't know why their cognac pair are so wrinkled looking - even after a year mine aren't like that.

What about these, Emily, in the Kindling color? They are a warm cognac and zip up the back. They aren't inexpensive, but I can tell you from personal experience that they will be an incredibly good investment. The quality of JCrew boots is amazing. I have a pair of pebbled brown leather ones that are probably at least 10 years old and they are still absolutely beautiful. The toe shape on this one (like mine) is a perfect compromise between round and pointy.

One quick question based on personal experience: Are you sure you want a back zip? One of my pairs is a back zip one and the zip means that I absolutely have to wear mid-weight or thicker sock with it or it abrades my heel. It is very soft leather and has a good zipper cover on it, but the zipper just stiffens the leather and makes it less comfortable.

I've been on the hunt for similar!

I ordered this from Nordstrom (the sale hits tomorrow, and most are sold out online, but I was in store and they ordered a pair in my size to be delivered). I have no idea if I'll like them once they arrive (hoping!)
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/to.....onalizedso

I like these a lot, but apparently I have small calves and these were fairly large on my calves (in Redwood):
http://www.thefryecompany.com/.....inside-zip

Here is the thread where I posted my pictures of them on me. Pictures near the end of the thread:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-versatile

Thanks, Janet! The first pair is Aldo...They had a couple of awesome pairs last year that I eyed forever and decided to pass on. This year it's all ruching and buckles and weirdness. Disappointing.

I've been looking at cognac boots when I see them out and about, and I've got to say I haven't been terribly impressed by the offerings. Many of them are in a leather that seems to scratch and mark easily, or they have too many geegaws and gimmicks. But mostly, it just seems like there are not many cognac boots available in the stores. I will keep you posted if I see anything interesting.

I do think that first pair looks nice.

I have had my eyes peeled for some time for a pair of cognac riding boots, either flat or with a small heel, that don't have a clunky feeling sole. My dream pair has a zipper up the back, but we don't always get what we want. Has anyone seen any like that?

I like #1, especially the colour, but wish the sole wasn't so clunky. #2 is more refined looking to my eye, but the colour is more chestnut than cognac and unfortunately they are synthetic.
