I wonder about some of EFs more exotic fabrics like Yak and Alpaca. They sound warm . . . I wonder what a yak would think of being dry cleaned. :).

Time to brace for the potential returns cycle!

Double ditto finding the right merino. I think it comes out better than cashmere. It's warm for your winters.
I found EF cardi's I liked in merino so I would not rule EF merino or wool blends (hand wash or gentle wash) out, since there is often a good style element but staying power.

Here are some more, Thistle. And I was going to say exactly what Suz just said: merino wool (and several other fabrics) can 99% of the time be washed on cold or the wool programme in your washing machine. That's why I did include several items below that are hand wash, but only when I believed they will survive a gentle cycle in the washing machine.

You know, if it's merino wool you can wash it, no matter what the tags say. I would put it in a mesh bag on the hand wash cycle and then air dry. I wash ALL my sweaters, to be honest. I don't dry clean anything except for my wool coats and my wool jackets/ trousers. I just don't put stuff in the dryer.

And yes...charcoal is dark grey. A bit heathered in appearance and softer than black.

I'll second Beth Ann's recommendation for the first INC. I just ordered it for some similar needs as you. I wanted something I could wear to work with jeans, black pants or over a dress. I don't dry clean so it has to be washable.

It's a nice heavy knit, doesn't feel gross despite the high synthetic content, and is a really dark, neutral black. I wear a L in everything and this feels true to size and a little drapey. I washed before wearing, and had planned on air drying, but ended up having to put in the dryer because of an errant tissue in the wash (white lint ALL over my black sweater). Dried like a dream, no pilling.

Suz - As far as style of cardi, I am really open. If it meets the above categories . . . I guess the only other thing is I wear a lot of V-necks, so one that would compliment a V-neck.

I purchased the INC cardi below in black last season. I actually sized down to the large in the black (like the first photo), but took the XL in the purple (photo two) this fall. I wanted the first one to fit a little closer, and the purple to be more fluid.

These are comfy, but have a polished knit appearance and don't pill at all. The arms are a bit long, and I'm 5'6", so you might want a petite if you're shorter than I am.

I have this black sweater and love it. I can't wear wool (it's a lighter weight) so it's perfect for me.
http://www.amazon.com/Kenneth-.....038;ie=UTF

Put in 30clothing for 30% discount.
There is also one made with wool:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....8;pf_rd_s=

Thistle, I too had purged basically all of my cardigans but I did add this one this year:

I think it was an Angie pick from NAS and I've worn it several times already.

Hmmm. What style of cardi, do you think, Thistle? And would it have to be all black? I like the LE one Laura links to. And I am wondering if charcoal might be good as well.

Anyway, having thus muddied the waters, I vote you take a look at Eileen Fisher.

There is also the Stem knit jacket that was (I believe?) an Angie pick in the spring --- the back view is a bit different than the front, more jacket-like.

And that Vince Camuto furry collar one might be fun! The collar buttons off.

I also showed the cranberry sweater just because I know you look gorgeous in that colour.

I've had this one (find 1) on my Nordstrom wishlist for a bit - Nic & Zoe can be pricey but the quality has always been top notch. It's got a nice shape to it so it's not just a shapeless cardigan. And it's cotton/lyocell so it's washable. BTW, I've seen this one price-matched down to 80-something a couple times in the last month, so it might be worth contacting customer service or waiting until it goes on sale.

Talbots had some sweater blazers earlier in the fall - let me see if I can find them.

More blazer-y option: Target again this year has several colors of their ponte blazer, in both the misses' and the plus sizes. They are washable and quite comfy.

ETA: Talbots has 40% off and free shipping today - some good options here: http://www.talbots.com/online/...../_/N-10501

How does Lands' End work for you? Find 2 isn't black but it would look nice with black, with the black trim.

So, after going through my wardrobe, plenty of my tops still fit to meet the 10 tops I am looking to have in my mid and late winter capsule. However, I could really use toppers. Black toppers to match with the black trousers that will be a staple this winter. I wore the heck out of the two black cardis in my maternity wardrobe, making me realize that perhaps cutting cardis out of my wardrobe when I joined YLF to reduce frump has created a hole. Especially as the jackets I was going to replace them with are never worn as they aren't as comfy.

So, I am looking for 1-2 cardis or sweater jackets. Requirements:

1. Come in my size. I am an XL at this point (14-16) on top, so that sizes me out of a lot.

2. Comfortable. I will be working my tail off at a desk to get home to 2 small children.

3. At least a semblance of style of professionalism.

4. Easy to launder. I will be wearing these to work, but there is always the chance . . . DD2 is the spit up queen, and I just know she will find everything and anything dry clean only!

I have found 1, 2 & 3, but they have all been dry clean only.

I am realizing why lists are so hard for clothes . . .
