Thanks Linda Welsh, good suggestion! I created finds just now for all the colors I found online. This is one item I just might find in a store and could try on, although none of these current colors are quite what I want.

Fashintern, thanks, but those are crops with high waist and wider legs - not what I want at this point. Sundance does have a lot of other possibilities that might work.

Amen to making it standard to give both inseam and rise (front & back) measurements!

ETA just for fun I went to the site I shop from over here. I like it because they have terse little bits of straight-up info instead of the fluffy, useless descriptions I’ve seen elsewhere. I know they let me search by length, but I wasn’t sure about rise. Check it out! Not only can you search by rise, but they include it in the info for each pair. So there’s your proof of concept; the info is available, if retailers choose to list it. I don’t see any way to search or sort by waistband though.

PPS. Back again. It wouldn’t be fair of me to say what I just did about Zalando without also saying that it made me curious about Nordstrom’s sort options (which I always thought were good) so I went to see what they offer. Turns out they also let you search for the rise and inseam you want. (Pic 5) I’m glad to see that!

Hi,
At Macy's I purchased the Tommy Hilfiger Hampton Chino pants, I had to have them taken in, but if you roll them down, they are not cropped. I posted a pic of how I styled them a while ago. Mid rise, on sale!!

Fashintern, I wish they would give the inseam AND the rise! Inseam measurements are offered more often than rise measurements, at least it seems that way to me, but both are not given precisely far too often.

Sloper, EB is a good suggestion, thanks. I tried some pants from them in late spring (not the ones you showed) but they had too high a "medium rise" and their pant legs often are a bit too slim for me when the rest of the garment fits well. The ones you showed might work, I'll take a look.

Doncha wish they’d just give the inseam measurement already? Crops can work as full-length on you, and I’ve returned many a “full length” pair because they were crops/“floods” on me.

There is an English version of that website I sent earlier, but looking further, it seems they don’t ship to North America. Sorry!

I’m surprised to hear shipping from Boden might be so free & easy. I’ve ordered things from a different UK retailer—it’s taken forever and I’ve had to pay customs. No clue yet how to get customs refunded for things I’m not keeping.

Thanks Celia, I will check out that Massimo Dutti. You are right that sometimes regular sized cropped pants can be full length on those of us who are very short!

Thanks Joy. I do check out the consignment shops in my area but have never found any pants that fit right. I think they are too small to have a good selection, and they are mostly not in convenient locations so I don't go back often. I really should look at Chicos again; the stores near me have irritating SAs (old-school pushy trying to sell you something), and I don't care for the overall vibe of Chico's style but I know the quality is pretty good and maybe they would have pants that would work.

Thanks Angie - I do see Sundry on Shopbop so will give them another look. Some are too pricey for me but lots of sales right now . I've tried all possibilities at Talbots and they do not have what I'm looking for, at least not right now. That rise and inseam combination is so hard to find!

Thanks LaPed - I'll have to look at Boden again and see if that shipping policy still applies. and yes to checking out Uniqlo.

Like Greyscale, my first thought was Uniqlo. I like the Linen Cotton Tapered Pants. I have a pair that has held up for years and has proved very versatile.

Is Boden not offering free shipping over $50 anymore? I think the Richmond Pants would suit you; they come in lots of fun colours and a few different inseams. Boden often runs promos that include free returns as well.

Try looking at thrift of consignment shops, or Chico’s. The ones I have found are mid rise and slim with flat
ocmdts. Many are sewn shut. While I was looking for pull on, the Chico have. Front zipper and snap. I am usually a size 4/6 right now and the 05 is a generous fit that stays put but works as a pull on. Not too high or too low.

I feel your pain Chris, it feels like we are looking for an unicorn not a pair of pants....
Would this from Massimo Dutti work for you
https://www.massimodutti.com/c.....Id=1887043

It says they are cropped but for 5'3" me this is usually almost full lenght.
I have found other midrises but they are pull ons , hope you have better luck than me.

@Chris987
My pants/jeans that seamstress worked on were a bit big in the waist for me ( and all over too ).
First she checked if folding the waist band down would be comfortable for me ( the lower position was more fitted but comfortable ). Second - we talked about front pockets and how little would be left from them after alterations - I was fine with that .
She didn't move the zipper - she ripped the seams, separated the waistband from pants, cut some fabric and zipper too and re-attached the waistband in the new lower position ( 1 1/2" lower I think ).
On all three pants/jeans the alterations worked ok ( stretchy fabric on all of them ). Of course not every tailor or seamstress would be able to do that - I guess I was lucky.

I wonder if Uniqlo might have something?

These have approximately the right rise and inseam. They're synthetic, if that's a consideration.
https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/w.....33256.html

I’ve been trying to find the same but w/ no stretch & a shorter inseam. Ha, good luck w/ that. I have found a few by J. Crew on ebay. Inexpensive, but it’s always taking a chance there.

Thanks Slim Cat, I have found some good things at Gap factory; I should have added them to that list I posted. BR pants never fit me, they seem to be designed for slimmer bodies I think. Can you describe how your seamstress lowered a waist on pants? I thought it was generally not possible because you have to remove the zipper and place it further down .... but maybe that's more doable than I realize.

I was looking on the GAP Factory and BR Factory websites - a few possibilities but I've not visited those stores in a while and can't say if description is correct ( true mid rise and such )
Hopefully some of other suggestions will work out ( I'm wearing the same camo pants from Lucky Brand with waist lowered by seamstress )

Thanks Janet, yes Pilcro has definitely gone all-high-rise. I too am waiting for this to change ... You are a good deal taller than me so I can see how a 10" rise could work for you. Good suggestion to look on Poshmark, although right now I can't actually think of any brands that I know will work .... I'll have to give that some thought.

I feel your pain. Everything in stores still seems to be high rise. And sizing up in high rises has unfortunate results for those of us who would like a little more room in the hip or thigh but don’t want more length in the rise.

Anthro’s Pilcro line has been my go-to, but even they are doing everything with a fairly high rise right now. I’ve just been living with some slightly higher rises (10” or a little more, if the fit is right), with untucked, semi-tucked, and tie-front tops. But I’m waiting impatiently for rises to shorten again before making pricier pants purchases.

I wonder if you might have luck checking Poshmark for gently used mid rise pants in brands you know work for you.

Liz, those JCP pants look great! Thanks! Will definitely give them a try. I was able to create a find for them.

Pat_P , thanks! Will definitely take a look. This brand works for me for jeans, I don't know why I didn't think of going to their own site. :-)

You might try looking on the Kut from the Kloth web site - they have several styles that don’t show up on Nordstrom. And they’re having a big sale right now.

I just bought these: light, woven fabric, flat side pocket on leg, casual but not quite a hiking pant. They're cropped, but mine have a 28" inseam, with cuff unrolled, which fits your length needs.

https://www.jcpenney.com/p/liz.....r&

I’m on what feels like a totally futile hunt for a few more pairs of summer pants. I’m totally on team “high rise tyranny” as discussed in Viva’s thread from a few weeks ago https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....-high-rise I have enough jeans and shorts. I don't want to wear dresses very often, although I do wear them occasionally. I’ll skip the long diatribe on the “whys” and will just say that I’m seeking the following:

Summer pants (not jeans) with a mid rise (9.5” ish), slim/straight legs (not skinny or wide), inseam of 27-28” (no crops), woven fabric (not knit), waistband/zipper (not pull-on), casual style but not joggers/cargos unless fairly refined with flat or no side pockets (no tech/hiking pants or “dress pants”), darkish or neutral colors (not thrilled with black but maybe…). Probably prefer a classic style but willing to try something a bit trendy. Might be ok with a slight bootcut leg but really prefer a straighter style with sneakers/sandals. I generally stick to lower price points but am willing to spend more for the right piece .Kinda willing to throw budget out the window for the right option ...

I've tried sizing up on pants that are too skinny, and that has some promise, but have not found any specific ones that work. Plus sizing up typically means a higher rise.

I’m ready to give up and put my effort into perfecting my laundry bottleneck dance, but am hoping maybe some of you have
some suggestions. :-) Thanks in advance!

What I Have Now (Finds 1 - 6)

ON skinny khakis in 3 colors; have gotten really tired of the skinny leg style

Lucky olive camo pants that I like a lot

Gap Factory chinos in olive that work but don't look great

Lemon yellow pull on pants that I don’t feel like wearing much

Possibilities (Finds 7-11)

The Athleta Brooklyn fits really well but the fabric is so thin that it accentuates the lumpage/bumpage on my thighs unless they are black.

Kut possibility if I want another camo print in lighter colors and can find them somewhere other than Nordstrom

LLBean has a couple of possibilities but they are kind of ho-hum

Where I’ve Looked

I have very few boutiques near me and the are all doing only high rise pants these days.

Talbots – has a chino that works but I’m between sizes in a way that alterations would not fix

Loft – no mid rise

BananaR – all the mid rise pants are skinny

Anthro – no mid rise anything

Macy’s – very few

Zappos – nope

Nordstrom – the Kut ones

Old Navy - nope

...and others ...

Interested in but have not tried Sundance or Boden or because the shopping/returning would start at $25-ish and maybe be higher than that. Still considering doing this.
