I went last weekend to the mall to search some out, but I suppose I was going to the wrong shops.

Thanks - so much to look at! I appreciate the ideas, ladies!

I second visiting "normal mall" stores and watching for sales. I have a hard time thrifting long tops too, but at the mall sales, they're right there, and often at near-thrift (sometimes better than thrift) prices.

You could check Gap. This one reminded me of the one in your link and comes in Tall and several colors. Gap is always running sales.
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....=604125002
Old Navy is another place to try. I second Beth Ann in watching for deals on Eileen Fisher. They are usually worth paying more because of the great fabrics and often made in USA and washable.

There is a bright colored (about five different shades) linen blend cable knit v neck on clearance at jcpenney in the jcp shop right now. It's lighter weight and thin so might be better for layering but really a steal.
Sweaters are just hitting stores for fall. I saw a few tunic sweaters at H&M when I was doing a quick walk by last week.

Well, here are some options (I have seen Vince sweaters at TJMax but not too often).
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....er/3490484
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/vi.....er/3490787
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/vi.....er/3570367
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/vi.....ee/3490666

You might try using the term "tunic sweater" in your searches. I'd think looking for Eileen Fisher items in consignment stores might lead to beautiful, timeless items at a reasonable price.

I have a longer than usual torso (many shirts leave a strip of bare tummy), and have been on a quest to find some light or mid-weight sweaters, with drape. I'd prefer not terribly fitted (no banded hem), for the sweaters in question to come down at least over my bum, and in colours (not black/ white/ grey, please). I wear a lot of skinnies, and I'd like to have a drapey, slouchy, colourful top layer in this vein, but I keep coming up empty.

Something like this: http://www.oasap.com/sweaters-.....eater.html

Is along the lines of what I'm craving.

I tend towards thrifting, so Ross and TJ Maxx tend to be my "higher end," but I'm willing to go elsewhere (read: spend more) for something I will wear quite a bit. Any thoughts?
