Thanks for the replies so far! I find that these Madewell shirts are a bit boxy and I agree with you, unfrumped, that the fabrication is key to comfort!

I won't be shopping in-store any time soon, which is why I'm seeking advice here. If anyone else has any recommendations to add, I'd be grateful.

Have you looked at Loft? I got the below earlier this summer. It’s more of a knit, but has a similar look.

Also, (v. different price point), I like the MM LaFleur cowl neck. Not collared, but has similar visual interest.

I find some shirts like that useful also. Woven natural fabrics are often cooler than knits, even cotton. And I sometimes want a tailored, collared style rather than a “ blouse”.

I have braved zombie- land to return to TJMAXX , and they have a variety of short- sleeved , collared button front shirts. A bit ago I bought a Tommy Hilfiger one— not a brand fan per se, but chose it for being cotton but in a kind of Oxford- cloth weave, actually a bit heavier, and it launders quite well. Plus color was a medium- light blue with white polka dots which fit into a wardrobe capsule.
Then I also have my elbow- sleeve pajama top I am wearing as a shirt.

At TJ, there were a other somewhat similar ones in wrong colors, plus ones in very light cotton that does not pass the wrinkle test, plus a lot of linen that also would wrinkle severely. Also a lot of cap sleeve and “ extended sleeve” that does not work for me— I need a shoulder seam.

I have not tried to look for such shirts online but I expect you could find some- it’s just so hard to evaluate the fabric. Also, if you have a department store that is open for in- store shopping, they would have sections of many different brands , so might get lucky.

Just popping in to ask for recommendations for lightweight, short- or cap-sleeved button-down or popover-style collared tops.

I'm interested in this sort of thing especially for online meetings, where the neckline/collar can add visual interest while covering my shoulders and allowing me to stay cool in the summer heat. Machine washable essential!

Adding a couple Finds as inspo, but if you have any direct experience or recs, let me know! THANKS SO MUCH!

UPDATE:

Thanks to everyone for your comments and advice below. I ended up finding a very nice linen version by the company DL 1961 through Shophop (below in Finds). I've worn their jeans before and always like the quality, so I thought it was worth the risk. Very pleased! I will probably wear most often with the tie undone and front-tucked, which is the look I'm going for. See my recent 1-year update for a pic.
