Suz - I will add the sloans to a potential list. I can see the Halogen pants being good for travel, but they're out of stock right now, so a non issue about the cut.

And I have already come to the same conclusion on the placeholder. I may wait to replace, but it's senseless to have an item in the closet that's always annoying you.

1. I learned from hard experience -- get rid of the placeholders!! ;)

2. For DD -- I like the suggestions you've had so far for J. Crew Pixies, Athleta, Eddie Bauer, etc. Gap might also have something similar. The BR Sloans might also work.

If straight or slim is not a requirement then those Halogen pants a bunch of us got at the NAS could be perfect. They are brilliant travel pants -- but they are a cropped flare.

I was looking through my closet and pulled out my WHBM ponte skinny pants. They are from a few years ago, but I rarely wear them. Today when I had them on, I remembered why. They slide down when I'm wearing them - almost like pantyhose. Where you feel like you have to keep hiking them up. Not at the waist, which fits well, but through the legs. So weird. They're pretty flattering and a good weight, but not a tall so I normally wear with a riding boot. But I'd never take them traveling for their irritation factor. Not sure if I should get rid of them or keep for the occasions when they are handy. The problem with that is I have a hard time replacing with something better when I still have a placeholder. But I'm in a spending pause for myself right now. Hmm. Will need to think, as these are definitely on the chopping block. For someone else though, they probably work great.

El Cee - my DD is slim, but developing curves. She dresses like an old soul, and I try to keep her looking somewhat current since she doesn't care one way or the other. She wears naturalizers and clarks and likes Ann Taylor dresses. Nothing wrong with that, as I own and like all those brands. But some things just look off for her age (young teen) When I point out what all the other girls are wearing, she just shrugs. Good news is she may resist peer pressure better than others.

Believe it or not, overall I prefer the lower rises as I have a high hip. The mid and high rise pants cut in at the wrong spot. The low rise pants have less tapering between hip and waistband. I prefer the Editor cut on me -- but I am 59 years old and curvy. If your daughter is more of a slim/straight build (especially in the hip area), she may prefer the straighter Columnist cut. I personally think that the low-rise Columnist styles look less "matronly". My friend's 24 year old daughter just loaded up on Columnist pants for her new job. It would probably be worth a trek to a "brick and mortar" store to try on the different fits.

Another good idea El Cee. Low rise isn't usually very low rise on her, so some of the styles I think of would look too matronly on her. Do you wear their pants? Which style work for you?

Elle - the jogger pant style could be good. That lessens any waist fit issues.

El Cee - I've got similar pants to those bootcut EB ones. Sadly a bit snug right now. It looks like they've got a good sale going right now. I've also got loft pants too. Guess we wear some of the same pant styles, because I've got a couple Athleta pants too, but the ones I have look a bit more gear like.

Joy - I thought they were short for me. Too pricy for my DD, as her size isn't totally set yet.

Another idea -- Pencil Pants from Loft. Machine washable. They are TTS... again, I wear the tall size. Try petite or regular size for your daughter. Loft.com is currently running a 50% off sale.

I find the Eddie Bauer pants to be true to size. I wear the tall sizes as I am 6 feet in height. Your daughter might do well with either their regular or petite size. Eddie Bauer also has other ponte pants in addition the the style I referenced above... some with the more traditional trouser styling and fly front. The trouser style pants pictured below I have had for 3+ years... still in great shape after numerous washings.

I would also look for some dressy jogger pants for your daughter. GAP usually has some. I have some black cotton pants with zipped pockets and wide elastic waist band that look surprisingly dressy. There not online right now but they've had some over the past two years.

Zella also makes pants that are good for travel - although probably too casual for most work places. I've taken international flights with these and gone out to dinner with the side ruching pulled up to make them 3/4 length pants.

Joy - I have only one EF dress, but I have eyed their pants. I like the look of some of them. I would definitely need to try on for size, as I'm often between two, but have hesitated because I'm pretty tall. If I remember correctly, the inseams were pretty short. Could work as an ankle pant though.

They can be pricey but I like EF knit pants for travel. They are not as heavy as Ponte' but I can layer silk long underwear pants under them for warmth. Your daughter would take a PP (smallest size, petite) and those may be too big, but you might consider them for yourself. I have and like to take a matching EF black jacket of the same knit. There are many styles. It can be worn alone as a topper or layered under another coat.

I personally love Eddie Bauer's Passenger Ponte Skinny Pants -- feel just like leggings with all the coverage of proper pants. You might also want to check out Athleta's ponte pants options (2 shown below). All of these styles are machine washable and would pack well with very little wrinkling.

Zoiechic - those pants are so cute. That's definitely the right vibe. I see the women's is dry clean, which may not be ideal for DD. She had recently aged out of kids sizes, and wears about a ladies 4. I personally have never had much luck with JCrew, but she may indeed have the right body shape to be worth dragging her to the store.

My DD also wears leggings that look more like jeans, like ones from hue. All through the kids sizes she wore Justice jeans that had the comfort waist (the ones that looked like maternity waists). She prefers comfy too.

I read that Staysfit was working on a four season travel wardrobe, and it made me realize a pair of pants like this would be helpful for me too, and probably most of you. It also made me think a pant like this could be a potential work pant as well. Either ankle or full length could work.

What do you wear to fill this need? Any suggestions where to look?
