It might be a little bit casual, but Eddie Bauer has a "trench" in black. I got one a few weeks ago. I don't know why they called it "trench" but it seems like a pretty good warm-weather raincoat. It might be on sale.

I have a packable waterproof (better than water resistant for sure) hooded raincoat from Tilley. It packs up small enough to put in your purse and is incredibly sturdy. I highly recommend this brand. They have 25 to 30% off sales all the time so wait to buy until then.

Thank you all! Of the suggestions, REI is the first stop since I have one easily accessible.

But Suz and JAileen have made a point. And JAillen's climate sounds close to mine. Maybe I just need to start carrying an umbrella instead of my borrowed coat. That may be the most comfortable option, and I already have good ones. I just got out of the habit, although one is always in my car.

Angie, thanks! Cute. Sold out though...and I don't think it is 98 when it is raining in Seattle! ;)

I have an unlined, lightweight gear raincoat from Marmot (via REI) that I layer with a lightweight puffer when it's cooler. My previous Marmot one lasted for over a decade so I recommend!
One thing to consider for summer wear is armpit zippers. I think those help a lot with air circulation and prevent overheating.

I have one from Columbia -- pure gear. Not really fashion wear. And I would hate to wear it in the extreme heat+humidity....back east I tended to carry an umbrella on days like that in summer instead of wearing a raincoat. But something like this can be invaluable.

Another option might be a poncho. https://www.sanponcho.com/prod.....ain-jacket

I also have a lightweight packable rain coat -- it is not 100% waterproof but it does keep me dry for a reasonable length of time. Again, I wouldn't say it is for 100F + humid temperatures but it is fine up to a point.

I second REI. Most fashion raincoats are not waterproof. Having said that, I lived along the Texas Gulf coast for ten years so I know heat, humidity and rain. I never wore a raincoat there in summer. I only used umbrellas, and I had them stashed everywhere. I still have most of them because now I live in the high desert and never use an umbrella, only a waterproof jacket, from REI. :)

I live in wet Seattle, on foot all the time, and have lots of raincoats! My lightweight one is from Kate Spade and it's AMAZING!

I gave one that’s super lightweight from Outdoor Research-and I’d wear it when it’s mid 70s, but beyond that nope. But I have a rain poncho that I wear for those occasions when the jacket is just too much. It’s just a cheap clear one-zero fashion but it keeps me dry and it’s cooler than an actual jacket

Perhaps Columbia, LL Bean, or Eddie Bauer? Sometimes I see lightweight raingear in their collections.

REI. You can find light weight, breathable, waterproof, and windproof, hooded jackets. My husband, who's an avid cyclist, needed one and found it there. I wanted something similar just as a rain jacket, that I could bear to wear in our summer heat and humidity, when we have thunderstorms that blow up quickly.

When I was there recently, I did see some longer ones that might fit the bill for what you want. Go to the cycling section and see what you can find.

I have one I stole from my husband and I thought that was good enough, but this summer has been so rainy I've started thinking maybe I should get one of my own. I've always avoided this because it seems an oxymoron of the fashion world, as in, anything light and breathable enough to stand to put on when it's in the 90s would not be able to be even water resistant. How? If air can get in, won't rain? The stolen one gets a "C" in both categories.

Essentials:

length to top of thighs or maybe mid-thigh.

hooded

breathable

Any suggestions?
