I never worry whether something is discounted after I buy it, especially if I can wear it straightaway. Unless it's on the clearance rack, I assume it will be at some point. And retailers are always playing the sale game...
That being said, if you feel you overpaid, do you love it enough? If it's just meh-the price really doesn't matter, it's not worth it.

Jules, I think when some commenters talk of "return and rebuy" they mean they take the item to Nordstrom and tell the SA they want to return it and repurchase it on the spot. I think the idea is that the SA can see that the item hasn't yet been worn, so technically it could be returned and repurchased. It sounds like some SAs will do this and some won't.

I too have had Nordstrom refuse to adjust my price if my size/color isn't still in stock. So this is indeed their policy. It's OK by me. As some others have said, you have to decide whether the item is worth full price to you.

As a side note, I returned a dress today to Anthro (not Nordstrom, but the situation is similar) because I had been on the fence about it. The zipper stuck a bit, and it wasn't as comfy as I had hoped. I couldn't justify keeping it for the price I paid. It was on sale on the website at a price I thought was fair, but I was outside the price adjustment window. I told the SA that I would keep it for the sale price, but she didn't offer to do the return and repurchase. So I had to return it and walk away (my size had long since sold out). So it's a matter of deciding whether the item is worth to you what you paid.

I’m confused how people can rebuy if the item is sold out in the colour/size, which seems to be the crux of the policy?
I agree many retailers are overpricing, then discounting items as a regular practice. So I won’t pay full price for anything at the Gap, for example. But if an item I want sells out in my colour/size before it gets reduced, it was probably fairly priced for the market. The reduction is to get rid of unsold stock in less popular sizes and colours and make room for more stock. I don’t have a problem paying to get something early in the season in the right size and colour and I don’t feel entitled to a discount after I made that decision. And at this point I would like to see reliable quality over constant discounting.

i know the policy. if i get no joy over the phone, i return and rebuy. if they don't let me, i just walk away. there's more merch.

I dislike paying more for something, but I also decide what an item is worth to me. If I like an item and it’s price is in the right range, I buy it. I remember that I liked it enough to pay that much for it.

If you have a store nearby you can try to get a price adjustment. You can even try a second time with a different sales person if the first isn’t accommodating.
I had luck with this at a different store. I missed the very generous return window-my bad. The first SA was borderline rude to me. The second time I inquired about when the time started, date received, date mailed, or date ordered. I wasn’t actually trying to return it. But that SA offered to do the return.

It's why I tend to stalk I suppose, because especially in this country we pay a lot for clothing and shoes. I seldom want something enough to pay a price I feel is over-inflated. But I agree that kkards's explanation makes sense and one can see their POV! I think with that explanation I would feel better too about just wearing it. But a number of Fabbers got annoyed when things that were in the NAS got marked down more not long after, such that they did actually return and re-buy. So it depends if you want the hassle.

FWIW, when this has happened to me, I always end up returning the item because I can't let go of the feeling of "overpaying" for the item. When I see the item, it screams CHUMP at me! It just doesn't sit well and I know that I won't feel great wearing the item. If I have worn it, and loved it and then it gets marked down, it doesn't bother me. It's fascinating how our psychology works!

it seems fair to me...you made a choice to buy at that retail when the size/color you needed was in stock. the retailer, ie Nordstroms, then looked at what was left, probably the less popular sizes and/or colors, and decided that the only way to sell those was to reduce the price...there is a good chance that if your size/color was still in stock, the item would not have been marked down again....

yes...there website clearly states this is the policy

Nordstrom Sale Adjustment
If we permanently reduce the price of an item you purchased, we will happily adjust the sale price at your request within 14 days of your shipment date. The item must be the same color and size and must be in stock.

Please note that we can only make one sale adjustment per item, and we do not process automated adjustment requests generated by third-party services. Sale adjustments do not apply to items included in special and/or limited-time savings events. Designer goods originally purchased at a sale price are also excluded from any adjustments. Additional category, brand or product exclusions may apply.

I ordered a skirt from Nordstroms and before I got it, it was reduced again. I emailed customer service about a credit to my charge for the price difference and was told that could not happen because it was sold out in my size/color? I can see that for price matching but is this also true for sale items? I can prob. just return it and rebuy it but that seems silly to me...I had not yet even received the skirt so maybe 3-4 days between purchasing it and price reduction. Any thoughts on this?
