I'm with those who have more fun with fashion in the fall; second is spring. For me, fall is like fashion new year, whereas summer is, like binkle said, more like "grin and bear it." And winters for me now are about what works in rainy cold.

But I admit that I hadn't thought about when I wear more trends. I think that these days, I enjoy trends all year round. However, many of my "trends" are more to do with styling rather than buying specific items. Or, like kaelyn, I may buy a piece that happens to be trendy but I think of as having longevity *for me*. For example, I have a few bell sleeve items that are up to 15 years old because I liked the look when it trended previously, and I'll wear it regardless of whether it's hot at the moment or not.

Then there's the factor of trends acting differently from the way they used to. Some items have a very long arc of staying on trend like Angie has pointed out, but I've also noticed mini trends flickering in and out in a very fast frequency. What is new to me about that is that they come back at all after dropping out of sight, and quickly. So if something goes away, it might have a surprise comeback in the next 6 months to couple of years.

I tend to be more experimental in spring.

That's probably a lie. The truth is probably that I go a little bit insane every spring because everything is fresh and new and so are the clothes in stores. I'm a sucker for a bold, bright print; especially if it's floral or paisley. Which is dumb, because I never wear them enough to justify the purchase.

My summer style is generally the same year to year--the bare minimum to keep from being arrested for indecent exposure. I live in the American south, and summer is brutal. In fall, I tend to just add a lightweight layer over my summer clothes, and in winter I gravitate towards truly RATE style, with shredded sweaters and such.

Then spring rolls around, with all its newness and freshness and bold, bright prints and I have to stop myself from going completely insane and buying all the prints because really, I won't wear them enough.

I'm also an Autumn/Winter person, plus I still get a kick out of the whole "back to school" vibe of the season. I buy more during cooler weather, and so inevitably more "trend" stuff for that season. Unfortunately I thus end up with too many sweaters, tweeds and velvets than justified by the weather in SoCal!

Summer is my grin and bear it season, so I'll just get a few tees, unless I need something for work.

But I don't seek out a trend, just because it is a trend. At my age, almost everything is a recycled look, so I think I'm more, "Yay, X is back!" This year it is striped sweaters with lurex.

Theoretically, I should be buying more trendy items for winter since it's my dominant season, but winter items are:
1. Expensive
2. Limited as far as the silhouettes I can wear.

So almost all trends are stockpiled into summer and some into spring/fall.

The other thing is: I'm just not in the mood for fashion in the winter.

I wear more trends in for the autumn/winter/spring season. The same level of warmth is needed for about 9 months of the year here in the UK, so it's worth adding more trends as clothes get more wear. I also just really struggle with summer dressing and getting the level of formality that I'm aiming for.

Very interesting question. I had never considered it before. But I would have to agree with you. I am more inclined to experiment with trendy pieces during the Summer when I perceive the garments to be cheaper and not as long lasting.

I like trying trends more in the fall/winter because the weather is more comfortable for me and it's easier for me to deal with new things in general. In the spring/summer I feel miserable because of the high heat and I just want to throw on something familiar and comfortable and not try too hard to make something new and trendy work for me.

I definitely have a saturation point for trends, and it's very low. I like experimenting, but I have to be 100% on board with the trend to actually invest money in it. I don't buy things with the intent of wearing them for a season or two and then getting rid of them (not to say that never happens, because preferences do change!), so when I purchase something, I have to be comfortable with the idea of wearing it until it can no longer be worn.

I try not to buy too many trendy items for any given season. My weakness is boots, as I wear them 3/4 of the year.

My winter can last for six months! But when April rolls around and we still have 10 feet of snow on the ground (this year), I struggle with the darker palette and texture of my fall-winter attire. I'm more aware of trends now through YFL, and I am conscious of their lifespan.

But I am embracing Angie's advice that stylish can encompass a lot more than just currently trendy. I'm trying to buy what flatters and what I love, and stocking up a bit if I find a trend I love, just because it is available. I just bought wedge boots, even though wedges may be over.

For me it is more the kind of trends than season. I tend to buy more footwear trends in summer as I have low resistance in buying sandals. In colder weather I can not resist any oversize sweater type trends.

It's the same here, specially with summer clothes- I tend to be braver in the summer. And, summer clother are usually not that expensive, more room for experimenting.

I'm with you delurked - I'm much more likely to try a trend item for summer/spring type weather as our late fall and winter are very short seasons here and I just don't get the chance to wear an item enough times to justify buying for one or two years only. I think nearly all of my cold weather clothing is classic, lasting many years.

That said, I don't buy a lot of trends in any season really because I seem to buy more than I need for any given year and I want to at least get 20+ wears from most items over the time I have them.

I'm with you , but include Fall in my list too. I'm in minimal , more classic/ordinary looks in winter as a coat and scarf end up being the statement pieces - but still not necessarily trendy. Saturation point? Definitely - enough is enough with all things trendy. Who wants to be stuck with too many once-trendy pieces in their wardrobe which are all-of-a-sudden over and done with ? With tops - usually just one or two are enough .

When I was in a store last week, I saw a sweater in a nice aubergine. It got me thinking about seasonality and trends. I thought to myself that I already had a couple items with trendy sleeves and I personally didn't want more.

Since I wear minimal winter wear, my fall and winter clothing (assuming decent quality) can last for years. I am more willing to wear trends in my spring/summer clothing because they get worn out more quickly.

What about you? Does season matter for trends you wear? And at some point, do you feel you've reached a saturation point and won't buy more?
