Wow, that was one thorough reply! My fit issues are my small torso, wider rather than protruding breasts, and small band size. Supposedly a 30DD would work but often it doesn't. I'm built side to side more than forward, if that makes sense. So the underwires are poking near my armpits, but I have extra space near the top of the cup. Sooooo annoying. And the back fat thing is atrocious. I'm not a big girl but I have the worst time with this. People swear that going down in band size fixes that. I beg to differ. That's like getting a tighter waistband on your undies to help with muffin top!

Wow, so many responses! :)

Mo, have you tried French brands? Chantelle is very, very nice. It's also quite expensive, but if you don't have a too small band-size it could work for you. What's your problem with your bras, exactly?

Gaylene, I LOVE books too, as objects (also for reading purposes, of course). And I like antique editions. Glad to see I'm not the only one into pretty lingerie!

Fieldmouse, I'm not broke -yet. And I used to hate grey clothing but as of lately, not so much. It's a pretty useful neutral when paired with other colors!

Dustt, why, sweaters are comfy and cozy, it's no wonder you stock up on those. I do that, too, even though we only get about 3-4 cold months.

Laurie, cashmere is soooo soft and glamorous! It does make one feel more special, doesn't it? Just move somewhere colder so you can enjoy your clothes. Just kidding! Or maybe not? :P

Ruth, I'm lucky I don't really like cooking! And I am often tempted by items on sale, although I am learning from my past mistakes, too.

Alaskagirl, beautiful notebooks are one of my most stupid weaknesses. Specially since I have awful handwriting, so I don't like to stain their beautiful pages with my writing. Duh. I also have this dream about writing my first novel on a beautiful journal. Right. Keep dreaming.

Dianthus, collecting beautiful things is not bad as long as you have space for them! And I hear you on the too full drawer. Happening to me right now, although I could get rid of a few old items...

Lyn*, if there is someone who can't have too many dresses, that would be you!!

Gigi, thanks for your concern! I don't think I have a problem with my sexiness. I think I just buy those bras because I still feel like the opportunity to buy bras will disappear soon, so I *have* to stock up. But I'm not doing that again. Promise! And I have many, many shoes too. That's my other obsession.

DonnaF, I have an obscure size too. Actually, I have a 28 bandsize, which is almost impossible to find in stores. I think I just have found a bra brand that, in a specific style, works for me in a 30 bandsize (and they sell them in different patterns and fabrics). I will not lie, they are not the best quality out there, and they could fit me better, but I'll make do with them. They fit well enough. I have had good luck with other brands like Penache or Fantasie in the past, but they were expensive and guess what, I have changed sizes twice in the last four years so even though they are still in great condition, they don't fit me anymore! I can't find +D cup lingerie in this country of mine unless it's in that store, and I refuse to buy online, especially bras.

Happy, yes, you can have too many earrings. I know I do. You'll know when you have a box full of earrings you never wear while you always reach for the same two favorite pairs. I have many coats, but I don't think I have too many yet! (Cute nickname, btw!)

Carter, I can see a signature style going on there. Maybe you are the woman with a rainbow of shirts. It doesn't sound like a bad thing to me!

AnnieMouse, I think it's understandable that you would be excited to 'finish puberty' and get 'proper' bras. I know I went a bit bananas when I lost a good amount of weight and had to buy an entire new wardrobe.

Vildy, do you wear all your blazers? Because if you do -and they are cheap, and you can afford them-, I think it's not so bad that you are buying so many.

Deb, I don't know. Why do you? Hahah

Aquamarine, I stopped searching for the perfect pair of jeans. i have assumed they do not exist -for me. Although my last purchases are alright. But I still want to take them off as soon as I hit home...

Gabrielle, black pants do provide a good background for other statement pieces. Do you wear memorable tops too? It's strange that colleagues notice your black pants more than bright, sparkly or patterned items.

Ramya, you got SEVEN bags as presents? Do you like any of those? Are they practical for you? Bags and wallets are one of those things I much rather buy myself. They have to be really practical and fit my needs, otherwise I don't use them...

Ornella and Krista, scarves my mom. And me. But it's my mom's fault.

Tanya, are you into patterned jeans? Bet you love those!

Disha, me too. About the bras AND the jeans. I don't try on jeans as of lately though, just to avoid the urge if I find a good enough pair.

Donna F, nail polish can add a little something to any outfit. I have a friend who owns a lot of items in teal, so she got teal nail polish too. It looks very cute!

Ah, yes; nail polish. I only change about once a week on the fingers and once every three on the toes. So how many bottles can one use, not to mention that I have only a couple of favorites! It used to be scarves, so at least polish is cheaper.

Shoes and bags, those are always hard to resist.
BUT since I have a hard time finding good jeans and bras that fit, if I find them I buy them - need or no need.

Interesting question. If I was being honest with myself, I would have to say black slacks. For some reason, every time I come across a pair of black slacks that fit, I buy them. I have become known for wearing black at the office. That was never my intent. I always imagined that the black provided a backdrop for the rest of my outfit to shine. Guess not.

I don't make special shopping expeditions but if I'm at my mostly weekly one hour thrift shopping trip and have been very stressed, I will probably buy another blazer. I tell myself that it's much better than buying another coat except that I tend to wear the coats and I don't wear the blazers enough.
I will also browse for blazers online and have to keep talking myself out of them because inevitably I will spot one that I really, really like. Now, I do actually purge blazers but still... Sometimes I will make myself laugh because I have spotted the (current) Perfect blazer on eBay and since I like to pay about $2-$5 dollars per blazer, I tell myself to think of how many blazers I could buy and purge for the price of the eBay one.

I'm a cycle shopper. I'll shop in fits for things, all at a wack. Earlier this year, my bust suddenly went bonkers, and none of my bras fit at all - turned out, I'd finally finished puberty and had a "proper" bust after all these years. I was so excited to be able to wear "real" bras, I went a little bananas!

Earlier in the fall, I had an attack of boot buying, and in the spring, it was denim. Sweaters are an especial weakness, in all shapes, sizes, silhouettes, and gauges.

Button down shirts. I do wear them very often, but I have way more than I need. Afraid to count, but I bet there are more than 50 in a rainbow of colors plus all the neutrals I've been buying recently. I will say that cookbooks may be a bigger issue!

I have a serious weakness for jackets and sweaters. The thing is, I live in Texas. We don't get that much cold weather...although I whine about what we do get because I hate being cold.

I think I like cooler weather clothes because they give me structure. I'm starting to look for that no matter what the season.

I am impressed that you can find that many bras to fit you! IMHO, finding a great bra is like finding a great pair of jeans/pants -- and just as difficult. I recently stumbled upon bratabase.com which is a bra database. It tells you stuff like, "If X brand in model A in size Q fits you, then Y brand in Model B in size T should fit you," as well as gives you precise measurements of all dimensions and consumer reviews and the bras and sizes that each reviewer said fit her. Not as exciting as going to a lingerie shop, but I wear an obscure size that is pretty much only sold online.

Hi, Irene,
I'm sorry to hear about your struggle. Is it possible that the bras are filling a deeper need to feel feminine and sexy? Is there some other way that you could fulfill that need that wouldn't involve buying bras?

As for me, I have very little money, so there is nothing that I can't *not* buy. I do have a big weakness for boots, however! It seems like I cycle through shopping sprees on different items--for a while it was lingerie, then it was underwear, then it was bras, then it was shoes, and now it's boots. I'm hoping I'll eventually have gotten through all the clothing items and then can stop. :^)

I have difficulty not overbuying boots in winter. I seem to get on a roll for different things. I currently have a moratorium on purchasing any art that is floral or sculptural metal. No more chandeliers (except one for my bath) either.

P.S. I had a bra phase too and they wouldn't all fit in a large drawer but I kept on buying. Freya, Fantasie, Lejaby, Prima Donna, panache, etc.

Up until recently, I couldn't stop buying cookbooks. I guess it's because my ex husband took all of my cookbooks (without asking or telling me) when we separated. I had to replace them. I still love cookbooks, but remind myself that there are many free online recipes to print, and that I have limited shelf space.

Regarding wardrobe: I love sales, which has resulted in many buying mistakes over the years. Taking the time to learn what really looks best on me (both color and style) has led to fewer mistakes. Resisting the urge to buy sale items that I overlooked when at full price also keeps my impulse purchases in check.

I like to thrift, and for me, it's anything cashmere. I just can't seem to pass it up. And there's lots of cashmere to be found in the thrifts where I live... south Florida. Therein lies the problem!

In my defense I do wear at least one a day - even in the summer - my office is a meat locker!!

Well, books are my personal nemesis because I adore the smell and vibe of a small bookshop, and then feel obligated to help them stay in business by picking up a few(?) volumes before leaving. I'm so bad, I've been known to toss out clothes and shoes from my suitcase to make room--thinking I can always buy new sneakers or PJs, but might never run across this out-of-print book.

But I do understand your addiction to pretty bras and knickers. After being introduced to better quality, well-fitting and oh-so-pretty undies in my late fifties, I've been making up for all those years I spent in ill-fitting, molded cup nude "T-shirt" bras and cheap cotton knickers. My personal stance, though, is that it is impossible to have too many pretty, well-fitting bras!

Funny, I have a similar problem, but for opposite reasons. I keep buying them because I have yet to find one that fits me right. I must have bought 100 different models and brands over the last decade (returning half of them or more) and maybe 3 fit reasonably well.
Just 10 minutes ago I was pulling out a bra from a year or two ago and trying it on to see it does absolutely zero for my figure, although it technically fits. Sigh. Be glad you can go overboard on a lovely item because it fits you!! The opposite is a huge drag. HUGE.

I'm angry at myself because I can't stop buying bras (I can't stop buying other things too, but there's no explanation for those purchases).

I have this trauma from when I was a teenager and no bras would fit me, let alone the pretty ones my female peers were wearing. I was stuck with ill-fitting granny bras. Plain, beige, black or white. And incredibly expensive. Guess how the young version of me felt about that.

Some years later, I went to the UK and there I stocked up on pretty, youthful looking bras, and I was so happy. I also got bikinis. Yay.

But then I came back to Spain, and so did new lingerie stores that catered for +C women. The new bras were much cheaper than my former ones, much better fitting and much cuter.

And then I got a membership card that allows me to get everything 50% off during the whole year. I had to pay 50€ for that, but they will give me a 50€ gift card when I finally quit the club and the money has been way used up by now anyways.

The thing is, now I can't stop buying new pretty bras. I really don't need new bras, but I just can't help getting new ones every time I go to the store (which is why I don't visit the store very often). I went there on Thursday to get a basic bra in a nude color but they didn't have it. Instead, I came home with a black&white striped bra. I went to the same store today to exchange a bra for my sister that didn't fit her, and came back home with a beautiful grey lacy bra. I'm just glad their underpants don't fit me too, otherwise I would be spending double the money.

I suppose because I missed out on beautiful lingerie for years, now I'm in love with the idea of looking great under my street clothes. But this has to stop! Like: now. Today.

Although I'll still buy the nude t-shirt bra when I find it in my size. That one I actually need.

PS: I have the same problem with books. And shoes. But I haven't bought a book in months (well, I did, but it was second-hand!). I can't speak about the shoes.
