Theory pants have different fit styles, and I recommend trying them on in person to find the one that fits you best.

I did that with my first pair, and after that picked them up on ebay for under $100. I have three pairs currently of the black Emery in the Tailor fabric which is a seasonless wool that wears like iron.

Theory items will last for years and years.

Echoing all the Theory love here. But what K said makes perfect sense to me. They have to fit your needs. It sounds to me that you really want a washable trouser rather than a dress trouser and maybe cotton would be a better bet than wool? But Theory does make items like that as well. I have a pair of moto skinnies from them that I really like. My Theory items (all of them, so far, unless I keep the Lanai and pants) were bought on consignment or at Winner's (like TJ Maxx) at a substantially lower price. Ebay is another option -- that's how Shannon got her Lanai jacket.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I will keep an open mind. You are all right...if they are perfect for me it would be worth it. Especially since my search has to take take health issues into account, not just what I like and want.

The dry cleaning is a big issue for me, because I'm talking about finding one pair and wearing them 4-5 times a week. I really am a bit of a minimalist, plus I see different people every day. I don't think my students care...after all. They are all wearing the same blue jeans every time I see them! So even if I really push the boundaries it will still add a lot to the cost.

We'll see...it may not even be an issue. If they are perfect for Angie's body type, they won't be for mine I don't think!

I have had several Theory items over the years and they have always been lovely and lovely quality, Peri. However, I agree entirely with what Angie said. Yes, they are worth the price in that they are very good quality and they are very stylish, while also often somehow being timeless. As Angie was pointing out, that doesn't mean that they will be worth the price, i.e., a good value for you. You are a necessary part of the calculation! Your needs will determine whether they are worth the price for you.

My calculation goes like this: I prefer wool suiting to other fibers. I wear wool suiting (as a suit or as pieces) nearly every work day. I wear wool through the winter and summer, so unlined wool is my preference. My climate allows me to wear unlined wool in the winter and summer. Dry cleaning is not an issue for me. I am able to give my wool suiting a break of a couple days to regain its shape and air. (Wool is naturally antibacterial, so sweat is neutralized slightly by it as it airs. Therefore wearing it every few days refreshes it and means less dry cleaning.) The feeling of wool against my skin does not bother me. Because I wear my suiting so often, I can buy styles that will have a shorter style duration (two or three years). My style is generally very clean and classic, so investing in pieces that are clean and classic but with a bit of an edge suits my style. Theory is cut fairly well for my body shape. Those things make Theory suiting a good value for me.

Your needs may be very different than mine. In that case, it may change the equation. I probably didn't even list some of the items that may be relevant to you! At the end of the day, whether Theory pants are a good value for you depends on YOU!

another vote for yes they are worth it. the quality is great (many of the pieces are made in US, which is part of the reason for the higher cost). i'm of the dry clean only a few times a year camp. i don't dryel. i find wrinkles will typically hang out, so i don't even need to steam that often.

I have a Theory jacket and people swoon when they see it--men and women. This is a more unsophisticated environment and I doubt the swooners have ever heard of Theory. But the quality just shines, even though it's a simple gray blazer.

Absolutely for me - my Theory jacket and trousers are the best fitting item in my closet. I wear most work items several times before dry cleaning, since I don't do much that involves getting dirty, unless it's spilling lunch. I'd say drying cleaning after 5 wears is more the norm for me for pants, and more for jackets. Maybe I'm way off base!

I haven't bought any Theory trousers, because I don't think they would work for my body type; however, I tried on a Theory jacket recently and nearly swooned with pleasure. It was soooooooooooooo incredibly well made and looked so good on. I hesitated because of the price; however, since I wear jackets almost daily for work, I think it would make sense for me to buy something like that, and may go back and pick it up.

If I only wore jackets once in awhile, I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money on a garment.

As for dry cleaning, I would go the Dryel route. I do this with my other dry-clean only clothes and it's great. Much less expensive.

I totally agree with Angie. I have a pair ofmTheory boot cut trousers that I got quite a few years ago and they still look brand new. I almost gave them away because they were too big and they couldn't get the alteration just right. I'm so glad I didnt, as I've grown back into them, lol!

Between a good steamer and Dryell you really shouldn't have to clean your pants all that often. I have a client who told me she only dry cleans her clothes a couple of times a season. That's a little extreme for me, but she always looks impeccable.

I vote for getting the pants if they're fab on ypu!

I have many Theory items. The brand fits my body type and understands my style persona. I have a thing for simple pieces in luxurious fabrications, and Theory does just that. The quality is impeccable, and I bat for Team Dressy. So for me, the prices are very much worth it. I buy something Theory every season.

Related to my Nordstrom stylist appointment, I've been checking options at Nordstrom online and one pair that looks like what I want is Theory.

I told the stylist that I would be happiest to keep the trousers under $200 and I was thinking that was a very generous budget...but the Theory ones are $275! I could do that...it's not my bank account but my conscience that would freak out.

And semi related...so many trouser are dry clean only and I'm a wear them daily kind of girl. So add weekly dry cleaning to that $275...that's even worse.
