They make possible a ballet flat type of shoe for women who walk out of ballet flats, so for this practical reason I think they will be around for at least another year. They also look good with cropped pants, which is another good reason. My feet, however, cannot tolerate such a flat shoe so I will enjoy this look on others.

I hope the trend lasts for at least another year, and I think it will. I bought a pair that was on one of Angie's recommendation lists, they fit perfectly and I love wearing them, so I hope they stay in style for a long time!

I hope the trend lasts a while! I was smitten by the style when I started seeing it on blogs in early spring, and I bought the Halogen Ghillie pair shown here (which are included in the NAS). I've worn the heck out of them this spring and summer so far. Almost every time I wear them, they get compliments. Just last week I was waiting in the music store where DS takes lessons. A (female) teacher walked by and said, "Those are the best shoes I've seen all day!"

They're surprisingly comfortable, although I wouldn't choose them for a hike. If you're considering getting a pair, I'd encourage you to go for it. They're a very fun shoe!

I'm not sure how long the ghillie trend will or won't last, I've seen it around my city a little bit, but not a ton. I've been wearing mine a lot this summer. I will say that they stay on easily if you knot them at the back of the ankle before making a bow and take no longer to put on then a sneaker (they don't criss-cross way up the leg on my pair though). I find my pair more comfortable than a sandal because they cover the toes and pull the sides of the shoe together evenly.

My opinion is that the gillie lace up shoe is a trend you needed to jump on right away and wear the heck out of. It is a bare leg look, so if you live in a place that has four seasons or a chunk of winter, they are going to sit in your closet for half the year.

What I'm starting to see 'in the wild' is the granny shoe! I'm seeing them being worn by younger women with short, patterned dresses (often floral) that are kind of 'A' line. Sort of 60's? Hair and make-up is natural and more 70's?

It's hard to say ... there are a few versions of "all the straps" around. I like the look on other people but I am not willing to fool around with straps that might fall down, myself.

I live in the frozen tundra, so trends get here late. Haven't even seen this one yet.

Man, I am terrible at gauging these things, but I think it probably has another summer (at least here in my not-on-top-of-trends area). I don't expect these to become classics, though, because they're kind of fussy and a pain to put on/take off.

Inspired by an NAS item but more broadly relevant: do you think the lace up the leg shoe trend is at the end of its life? Will it still be trendy next spring or is this fall the last hurrah?
