I was probably equally a fan of Bowie's and Prince's, but at different times in my life (and, interestingly, I associate each with a different relationship I had). But Prince's death is hitting me a little harder -- as Janet said, he's younger, close to my age, and whatever phase of his personal/musical evolution, he was always incredibly full of life. In fact, I have a hard time picturing him NOT MOVING. Do you know what I mean? I've been watching video -- his Hall of Fame guitar tribute to George Harrison, his rainy Superbowl performance of Purple Rain, an American Woman duet with Lenny Kravitz .... he just oozes life in every one. Life, pleasure, sexuality, love, and unfettered creative expression. It's so strange to be affected by a public death in this way, but I really feel saddened by his passing. I don't think the people who refuse to get a flu shot realize how bad the flu can get. It can be deadly. I agree that he was so young, and that this is so out-of-the-blue that it is kind of scary.
