Looking at these pictures again, I agree that it is wearable, but it definitely feels more oversized now. What I miss is the feeling of the "nip" at the waist. There are several inches of loose fabric at the waist now, so there is no real nipping other than the shape of the jacket itself, which stands away from my body when it is buttoned and when it is unbuttoned (Suz, yours does not hang like this on you, even in your early pictures!).

ETA: Beth Ann, I completely agree with you. If the Boston meetup (when I bought this) were this weekend, I am sure I would have bought a size down. It's so disappointing. I will try to make the menswear vibe work.

Thanks, Angie -- that makes sense then. My usual size. It is a narrow fitting jacket in the middle because it nips in at the waist quite a bit.

I do agree with the others, Vivian, that the sharp shoulders make it pretty wearable, esp. open. But you could always investigate tailoring.

If you were just now purchasing this, I would definitely suggest sizing down one size. Since it's already in your wardrobe, I'd style it to make the most of the sharp shoulders. The space gives it a bit more of a menswear vibe that you could play off of.

I recently lost about 5-10 pounds, and I thought I only needed to alter or replace my pants. But now my jackets seem big! Older jackets I have seem big, and I've had some taken in and they're OK but any new jacket I'm considering is a size smaller. ( maybe I was wearing everything a little big!) I'm 5'9" and used to weigh 140-150 pounds. When I reached my full height, years ago, I wore a 12-14. (At the same weight!) I know vanity sizing is rampant but today I'm buying size 6 or a small. It's crazy! (what do really small women do?) And it's hard to not pay attention to the size on the ticket.
Anyway, that jacket is beautiful and worth what it might take to make it fit. Or consign it, and move on, painful, I know, but sometimes it's better to cut your losses.

I am having trouble seeing, Vivian -- but wow, congrats on the improved fitness!

If it FEELS too "swimmy" it probably is, but could be altered.

I can't remember how much I sized up. Lots, I think. I normally wear a 0 or 2 US...(usually a 2 for jackets). I bought an 8 UK. At least I think it is an 8. And now I, alas, have the opposite problem to yours. It fits...but only just, after 5+ pounds gained post-surgery/sickness that have yet to be worked off. Sigh. Luckily, I never wear it buttoned.

Hmmm. Hard to see. Very dark. Perhaps a size too big. But the blazer can still be worn in a slouchier way.

I can see the extra fabric in the first pic where you are holding it out, but I cannot see it otherwise. It LOOKS fine, though I also understand wanting to show off that hard-earned waist. My understanding is that if the shoulders fit, it is easier to tailor than taking the shoulders in. If you still love the jacket, though, I'd look into having it adjusted.

Hmm I think if you still love the jacket you could work it in a slouchy-tailored way. The shoulder still looks sharp, and the seaming too, but as you say it's a bit big all over. I'd have to see how those sleeves look for final judgment but but I think that since the fabric is soft I think it's entirely workable -- BUT only if that's a look you're into.

Never mind you and your blazer - I'm finding a barre class immediately :)

In all seriousness, it's not looking huge in the photos but it's a little hard to see.....if anything, the sleeves are looking a little long which would happen if the whole jacket is now too big. That was an expensive jacket, and altering could cost quite a bit, depending on where the seams are in the back too. Could you get much for it at consignment?

Congrats on the discipline!
I think it looks a bit big. For what it's worth, my tailor told me that they can alter an article of clothing usually by one size. Any more than that, and too many adjustments will mean that the clothing just won't hang right and you won't be happy with the result.

I don't think it LOOKS too big - it's so perfectly cut that it just drapes well. But it may feel big and I understand wanting to show off your tiny hard-earned waist! I hope someone has better answers.

I bought this last year at this time. I was a little heavier, maybe 5 pounds, but more importantly, my core was much less fit. (I've been religious about Barre since August and I think it's affected my physique.) this jacket feels huge now. Pics 1 and 2 are closed, and there are several inches of loose fabric at the waist. This line does run small and I remember I bought what they called the equivalent of a U.S. 8, which meant I sized up two sizes. I think Suz sized up 1. What do you think? Does it look big? Should I go to a tailor? I don't know that I trust my small town tailor with this.
