I've been working from home (drainage engineer) since mid-March 2020 and my three kids were doing remote school too. They just started back with in-school learning for the last 6 weeks of the school year. My office isn't planning to open until the fall. I don't think we'll ever be back to normal though. Lots of people decided they like working from home (although almost everyone wants some time in the office) and it's hard to say we can't do our jobs from home after we've doing them for a whole year.

NM locked down early and hard. The whole state is still under a mask mandate for indoor and outdoor activities and my county is only allowing 25% capacity for business/restaurants. We're one of the poorest states in the US, have a high minority population which COVID disproportionally affects, and don't have the health resources that other states have. Luckily our governor was formerly the state's Secretary of Health so she's done a great job with managing the pandemic here and getting vaccines rolled out. NM has one of the highest percent vaccinated populations in the US. I get my second shot on Friday!

I'm still working from home, but faculty just got permission to go back into our offices when needed, and our research labs can move to 50% capacity! We're all vaccinated. So starting this week or next, I'll try to make the big shift back, but I have to admit that working from home is really pleasant. I desperately miss in-person interaction, but my house is a lovely place to work.

My research group was much like Diana described: total shutdown for a few months at the beginning, then one person allowed in for every 4 lab benches. So they're working in shifts, but I'm mostly staying home because my own work these days is either computer analysis or supervising. And I'm teaching online this semester, but fall semester will be in person.

We were sent to work from home on 13.3.2020. then were gradually back to office and by summer we were fully back. Sent home again in November and have been working from home since. But because of nature of my work I do go to office 1-2 days per week to perform tasks that are not possible to do from home.

WFH is my over 30 yr normal, but DH moved his office home a month ago— no need to keep his office build. I’m thankful we had unused space for his office so we each have our own.

Waves from Brisbane, Australia!
In my state, we have had almost no community transmission for a year, due to strict border controls, quarantine and contact tracing. If we get a case or two leaching out from hotel quarantine, the state tends to shut down fully for a few days to allow contact tracers to do their thing. People who may have been in contact with a case are then quarantined, and the rest of us are allowed out. Generally we do masks for 2-3 weeks after a case, and then we go back to none, if all is going well.
So it's a pretty different approach. We do however have a ridiculously slow vaccine rollout, and who knows when I will be vaccinated. I'm not expecting it until next year at this rate.
I feel in Brisbane we have an almost paradoxical situation - our day to day is pretty "normal". We do socially distance, hand sanitise etc, but it's not too far from normal. I realise how lucky we are! But I haven't seen my parents in Sydney for 14 months, because everytime we have planned something, one or the other of the borders have closed! So we are still constrained in some ways, despite the apparent success.

Because of the low or no community transmission, I have been back at work from July 2020. Until Christmas, I probably worked 3 days on campus and 2 days at home - one more day at home than what I used to. This year, aside from a couple of 3 day lockdowns, I have been back to four days a week on campus. Fingers crossed that if we control hotel quarantine, we will keep going with this - I think we all live in fear of a longer lockdown again...

As as stay at home mom, this passed year was one of the busiest in my life ! LOL ( it included taking care of my parents and disabled sister and an elderly couple that I know )

My husband was told in Nov. that he would be let go this April. But being in biotech in Ma he has offers rolling in immediately. We've been incredibly lucky ..... He happens to be in the right state with the right degree for jobs that are bullet proof. GOOD LUCK !

I'm in the Bay Area and have been fortunate that it's been business pretty much as usual for both DH and myself. I'm in construction and DH is in tech. My job requires my presence so WFH never really worked for me although I tried a few times off and on but it was too stressful.

I am in software development, and I've been WFH for almost 10 years. I've been with my current company for almost 2 years and my team is all over the globe. I am more productive when WFH (fewer interruptions from coworkers who would stop by to chit chat) and I find meetings (whether in-person or online) tend to be more disruptive, in general.

I started WFH about a year after DS1 was born. It was easier back then because we could go out and about and I could work from anywhere. Now, we are all home (the kids are remote learning full-time), and have been in and out of all levels of lockdown since last March. Work has been incredibly busy, and days that are already long feel even longer when stuck at home. I find it hard to force myself to stop when I don't have to go anywhere. :D

I’m in Australia and we currently have no local transmission due to very strict lockdowns and tracing when a case arises. Unfortunately there is very limited vaccinations occurring as doses are going to more at risk locations. I will probably be vaccinated late 2021 or 2022. Covid saw me and a colleague leave or former jobs and start up on our own. So working from home is my new normal.

Zoom meetings....
I hate them!
I have been doing trainings virtually, as well as organizational meetings- even on my weeks I'm in the office. My organization just announced that everyone needs to have their camera on during meetings. I think that ridiculous, and find it distracting. I don't need to see my coworker eating lunch or petting their dog while somene else is speaking.

@Diana Fellow university staff! Yes we still don't know yet if we'll be teaching online next term, but I'd honestly rather they did that if they felt we needed it (instead of rushing to reopen & therefore causing a spike in cases again - we're back up to approx 20 cases a day, so it's best to exercise caution).

Hong Kong was hit by the pandemic first in January 2020. So let's just say we've had a lot of time to sort ourselves out - & warn others to stock up on hand sanitiser & masks (whether they listened or not was another matter lol). I was stuck working from home from October 2018 until December 2019 though, due to the HK protests before then. So I think by the time COVID-19 hit, I think we were all going just a little stir crazy already

I just got my first shot today (was supposed to be earlier, as a priority group because I teach, but they had an issue with Astra Zenneca storage & then the blood clots issue came to light).

So whilst vaccination itself is slow (people are wary of it), things are mostly back to normal here (public transport was never affected, & non essential services like massages & karaoke were closed for a bit but now anything goes so long as it's before 10pm & you wear a mask lol). Mask wearing was already a thing here, so that wasn't really a problem - the biggest issue has been caps on the number of people that can gather at any one time (think it's still 4 but I'm not social enough to care lol) & also that they're now mandating you download the contact tracing app if you want to eat in (before you could just fill in a slip of paper with your details).

As for me, my faculty thankfully agreed to teach online for the remainder of this term already, but I don't technically WFH anymore because I go into my office to teach (trying to have that many people on a Zoom call at once is a nightmare for my home WiFi connection lol - I tolerated it until December 2019 but it was really affecting my teaching quality).

TL;DR - We're almost back to normal now, bar a few tweaks to public conduct

I am working in the lab maybe ~60% of the time these days, and the rest at home. It’s unfortunately impossible to do bench work at home! (Although there’s plenty of data analysis, writing, reading, etc to do at home as well, and all meetings are virtual). For social distancing and transportation reasons I tend to go in on weekends plus 2 weekdays (not every day is a full day in the lab) so my schedule is all topsy turvy. The university i work for is very strict about masks, distancing, cleaning, etc, so I feel pretty safe. I’ve been taking mandatory COVID tests once a week since September as well, which is a requirement for anyone working on site.

we were completely shut down for four months at the beginning of the pandemic, and I was definitely spinning my wheels a lot during that period, so I’m glad I can go in these days. The lack of meetings and face to face time with colleagues is difficult though, as we rely on that a lot to foster creativity and collaboration in science, and zoom is a poor alternative. Not to mention training new people in the lab is super challenging when you have to shout at them across the room and try to explain how to do some technique instead of just showing them.

The university is saying that things won’t be going back to normal (ie in person meetings, full capacity, etc) until August at earliest.

I got my first shot today!

WFH since March 2020. I had to be in the office in October for a few days.

Retired with both shots and not going anywhere without a mask. Here we are in the fourth spike, Mostly variants this time around, but still keeping venues closed or only partially open with lots of restrictions like planning way ahead for anything to get reservations...church, library, zoo, trails...planning ahead a month or so is hard with iffy weather the next couple of months. All meetings are Zoom.
Our sons and DDIL have been mostly working from home. One goes in for meetings and one to man help lines

I teach, and while we finished last year virtually, our district came back full time, in-person in September and have remained that way all year. So while I wear a mask all day (as do the kids, although usually improperly), I still go to work every morning.

Yep- since sometime mid March last year, and feel very blessed that I can. October- December I was in a temporary office space a few days a week, but saw clients only as needed.
I am now working a couple in person resource fairs, and did a little networking - but our cases are going up again. Most events are cancelled, or very limited attendance.
Still won't eat inside in a restaurant or get my hair or brows done at least til after my second shot.

It seems so crazy to me that things all around us are so bad, and here we are in souther California-indoor dining and opening amusement parks! I can't imagine there won't be a spike, but nobody seems to care...

Been WFH since March 16 2020. Half my team was furloughed about a month after that. But then within 2 months most were back, and honestly we’ve been busier than over. We may or may not go back at the beginning of June. But even when we go back it probably some kind of hybrid Arrangement.

I have always been WFH, but my husband, who works for a major entertainment company in SoCal, has also been out of the office since last March. The latest update says they hope to bring people back onsite in phases, starting in July.

I've been working from home since March 13 of last year. It's been fine, but some aspects of my job require the serendipity of new connections. So I'm planning to be back in the office 2-3 days/week once I've had my second vaccination, and have tentative plans for an in-person conference in October.

I’m in food manufacturing, so I’ve been working the whole time outside the home. My schedule dropped a day though. Business is picking back up, but now my schedule is so awkward, I probably won’t be picking up the fifth day. I want a bit of weekend!

The last time I worked with a client IN PERSON was March 9, 2020. I have been working with clients online for more than a year, but can only do so much. Not shopping with clients in person until infection rates are down further. I do not know when I will be able to visit homes for closet edits and reviews. Maybe 2022?

YLF is WFH as always. That part of my job easy.

I had my first jab on April 6. Second jab on April 28. Pfizer. Relieved! WA state still fully masked up with COVID measures strictly in place. Will continue to mask up and socially distance post vaccination.

Husband and daughter both are somewhat essential workers ( airline , and physiotherapy clinic ) and have not missed a beat . I was laid off for 2 months at this time last year and stayed at home while being paid through a govt income replacement program . The last closure the gym experienced ( Nov - Feb ) was different and we were required to show up to work . It was ridiculously soul crushing but at least I still had a job . Not very of us have been vaccinated yet and we are fully masked up all the time .

I have been working onsite throughout the pandemic. I had the option to wfh but really don’t like it. Part of our staff switched to remote and the rest of us did not. We are distanced and wear masks when we are not in a private work space. Most of us are now fully vaccinated, so we’re seeing more staff coming back, at least on a part time basis.
