I won't comment on DOP as it's not a look I've ever rocked (can look great on others though). But if you were to do blouse and slacks, I think the key would be accessories - high strappy sandals, amazing jewelry, evening bag etc can make it a very glam dressy look, and not office-y. Just another option to consider if you have suitable pieces.

Welcome! And with your ethnic heritage, I think you can wear DOP inspired by traditional garb from anywhere on the Indian subcontinent without being guilty of cultural misappropriation.

As an Indian who sometimes likes to change up the traditional combination while enjoying the basic silhouette and proportions, I am especially looking forward to your DOP pairings---for inspiration!

Love to see your options for the wedding, but as a general rule I think that dress over slender pants can still work beautifully, with the right fabrics and proportions. Sounds like it might be a signature look for you, as it is for Deborah.

Wow! Thanks for the responses! I am highly encouraged by Deborah, and also Jeanie's and comment that dressy DOP may be ok over a maxi is in line with what I was thinking. I will post some looks soon...maybe I can get some yays or nays on specific outfits. Kind of losing my mind over what to wear to this wedding! Thanks for the link Anna..very hepful! Thanks to all!

Hello! Anna's link is very inspiring and Deborah makes a good point about keeping it modern. I think a dressy DOP would be very pretty and I would vote for the DOP over a maxi or trousers for an evening wedding....just my opinion.

Welcome Devis:). Love Anna's link:). I have worn dresses over pants for years and will continue to do so:). I think it's I portent to keep a modern silhouette and make sure you update the look rather than just wear a combo you may have worn 10 years ago:)

Hi!

I am new to the forum and am desperate for some help!
I am a fan of the Dress Over Pants look and have been doing it for years, and it seems to work for me b/c I am tall (5'9") and also happen to be of Indian descent so the look has always been part of my heritage, and I have been able to transition it to my western wear, I *think* reasonably well.

I have really thin legs that I am very uncomfortable with. My question is, what does everyone think of a formal DOP look? I have once worn a BCBG dress that came to mid-thigh over slightly flared formal trousers.

I have to go to a wedding that starts at 4:30 in the evening and am freaking out that I want to hide my legs and don't know what is appropriate! DOP? Maxi? Trousers and a blouse (which I think is too "workplace"). And also,I am 36 years old if that makes any difference. Help!
