Angie T, and to top that it's referred to as ruby! Which think of as brighter and clearer than this sort of brick red. It sounds like it's all one big category though , so I'd go with whatever you prefer that works in your closet.

I am so glad that you asked this question..I asked a similar about navy blue and felt stupid that I didn't know it was the color that I liked best...Glad you were also confused about color...I was looking at a cashmere sweater that came in different blues...It is hard to be such an over achiever that you want the exact color to match the current fashion requirement...Perhaps we are the quintessential overachievers together...Here's to us...smile...

I've been thinking about this alot too. I just ordered a new bag an I'm not sure if the color is going to fall into the right range. The online photos show two different shades. The photo from Nordstrom, (where I ordered) looks it has more blue in the red leaning towards a berry, whereas the photo from Bloomingdales is a muddier red. I think the muddier red would work better with the colors I'm seeing in stores?

I think this is a great question. I too was a bit confused and finally figured out that dark red is just plain old burgundy (by a new name).

Thanks, Angie! I wear all these shoes a lot so it's nice to know they fit the trend du jour.

Dark red is any shade of red that is darker than Fire Engine. Oxblood (terrible name), burgundy, wine, maroon, claret, bordeaux etc. All dark red.

Possibly the dumbest question ever, but are we talking about all the shades of dark red with this trend? Burgundy, oxblood, maroon, wine?

I ask because I realized that I actually have FOUR pairs of "dark red" shoes: Dr. Marten boots, slip-on oxfords, patent Danskos, and a random pair of Avalon slip-on flats in a shiny croc. These are all several years old and still used often.

Clearly I do not need to add any footwear in any shade of red, but I am curious - especially since the Pantone shades are SO specific!
