I have discovered that any wool will make me a miserable camper - In terms of man made materials, it depends a lot on the hand feel of it. Some just feel super cheap, but others are quite lovely.

Yes. I am incredibly fussy about fabrics. I don't wear synthetics unless they're gear and designed to wick. And I don't like silk.

I am very fussy, almost moralistic about fabrics. Can't stand synthetics on principle. Funny story - a few months after I had my first baby, I went shopping with him and was so excited to find a lovely top at Ann Taylor. Then I touched it and recoiled...the lovely sales associate helping me looked knowingly and said, "you know, the only women who have ever been picky about the way fabric feels are women who have had babies." (Weird, yes?)

I'm with Kristin, it's more the hand feel to me when browsing. My skin isn't too picky about wear unless it's an itchy knit.

Certain types of polyester knits make me break out in terribly itchy hives, and I try to avoid wearing poly in the hot, humid summers. Still, I don't avoid all of it - there are some very nice, silky polys and poly blends these days that feel nice so long as you don't wear them when it is very hot and sticky out. I am not willing to pay very much for poly though.

Most acrylic feels like plastic to me.

I'm mildly fussy. Or to put it more accurately, I have phases. There are times when I feel poisoned by anything synthetic and times when I feel like I have the strength to take it. On the other hand, there are some naturals I can't take - the scratchiness of boiled wool and the creepy slinkiness of silk (which, btw, I also find incredibly hot). Basically I like fine cotton tops, rayon trousers, and soft wool sweaters (because cotton ones are not warm enough for me).

Sidenote: Polyester is definitely super hot and sticky - like having plastic melted on your skin or something.

It depends on the item -- some of my tops are actually polyester, but something about the way they are made makes them feel like cotton. This is a rarity, though, and I won't buy anything polyester online because I can't touch it first!

Acrylic and polyester don't really make me itch but something about them just feels wrong on my skin so I avoid them. For some reason the sensation of acrylic sweater sleeves rubbing on the surface of my desk is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, so I avoid them when possible.

I'm picky, but it more in how it feels. If the item doesn't feel soft or like it will move well, I pass on it.

I have the same issue. If I find a poly top I really love, I wear a very thin layering tank underneath. It's more comfortable and the cottony top makes me feel less sweaty and clammy, even in the heat of summer.

Polyester definitely causes me to sweat more. The fabric doesn't smell very good after. I have been buying mostly silk blouses the last few years, and they are great. More expensive obviously, but I have been buying just a few of them and doing sort of "quality over quantity". I still have synthetic tops but I love me some silk!

I can stand poly in a blend in suiting, for instance, but I'm with you on the tops. A few years ago I thought I'd try some poly blouses again. What a mistake! Not only did they feel uncomfortable in the heat, but they made me sweat and smell horrible. I never have that problem with rayon, silk or cotton. Stick to your guns!

My skin is super fussy about fabrics, too. Certain synthetics make me break out in a rash. Such a shame.
I like the idea of putting it on a pinboard though, just to keep track of the style.

I'm fussy about fabrics, but not because of my skin. The quality of fabrics has declined over the years, and generally, the more man-made fibers in the fabric, the lesser the quality.

My skin is very fussy when it comes to man made fibres. I find anything in polyester or nylon to be very uncomfortable on my top half, as in makes me itch and sweat more than usual. I'm okay with poly-cotton blends, but if it's 100% man made, it's a no go for me. For instance, the top below called to me from the window of Dorothy Perkins this morning. I checked it out on their website and discovered it was 100% polyester. I could try to ignore my skin's preferences and buy it anyway, but I know that within half an hour of putting it on I'd be wriggling around in my seat and trying to subtly scratch myself. Oh well, I guess I will have to be patient and add the pic to my inspiration board.
