Oh, and I ordered a bunch of winter coats to try on in my ongoing quest, but most of those will be going back (hopefully will be able to find one or two that work!). Haven't really started thinking about gifts yet, but last year we did a white elephant gift exchange with my family instead of buying presents for the adults, so that cuts down on the gift shopping..only have to shop for the nieces and my kids. Not super-early, but fairly early-ish (around 7:30 a.m.). Went to Macy's first, bought a couple of coats. Returned to car, went to Office Max or Office Depot (see? I can't even remember which store it was...lol) or something like that, husband got a great deal on a laptop for his Dad. Back to Macy's. Bought gifts for aunt, uncle, Mom. Then to Costco, more gifts, and wrapping paper etc. Target - picked up a really silly "Christmas sweater" for my Mom's pug. </p> <p>It got busy at Macy's by about 10-11 a.m. Long lines etc. If you get there at 7 or 8am - it's fairly quiet, and the sale is pretty good, imo. Way more stuff than I saw on their website, and more than was clear on their flyer. Amazing deals on men's and women's clothing. By 11am, it wasn't fun anymore. You don't need to be there at midnight or four in the morning or anything crazy like that, but semi-early, coffee-in-hand, and you can find some really good specials. </p> <p>Meanwhile, I see that Ann Taylor is continuing their sale through the weekend, it looks like. That's great, because I didn't make it there yesterday. After power-shopping like that yesterday though, it'll be online stuff now I think. I really need some basic sweaters. Didn't feel like trying stuff on yesterday (except a bunch of coats early, before it got too busy) as the crowds and lines got a bit much. I did buy a bunch of stuff for other people though. </p> <p>In hindsight, I'm going to suggest that Black Friday shopping is pretty good, but that it's more of a good opportunity to stock up on basics/favourites on sale - things where you know your size or what brands fit well. It's not a great time to try stuff on. </p> <p>Hmm...I don't like buying stuff online where I don't know the brand well, and I don't like buying gifts for people without seeing them first. So yeah, it's worth it to go out to the stores if you want to get some good deals. I was having issues finding corduroy jeans, as two pairs of the 4p jeans were the same style but fit VERY differently..one was too snug and tight throughout and the other I could almost fit a leaf of lettuce in the waist and had some loose "legginess" of the other. I settled on some 6p modern straight legs.
